JOB SUMMARY

Assists teachers, principals, directors and other school-based staff and Central Office personnel in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of special education services related to children birth to five and students, grades kindergarten through 12, with challenging behavior and emotional disability. Provides direct intervention services to families of children from birth to five with disabilities. Provides an assessment of the behavioral challenges and emotional disabilities children with special needs may experience. Develops strategies to assist families and birth to five staff. Manages assigned caseload of children according to their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and/or Individualized Family Support Plans (IFSP).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists with developing, implementing and providing services related to instructional and behavioral strategies and material recommendations to meet the needs of students with challenging behavior and emotional disability in the Least Restrictive Environment.
  • Assists with developing appropriate goals and services and participates in the evaluation of instructional and behavioral objectives to meet individual students'' needs.
  • Assists in the development, coordination, and adaption of countywide programs for students with challenging behavior and emotional disability.
  • Assists in planning, developing and providing professional development, training and orientation related to behavioral management and crisis intervention for students with emotional disabilities and students demonstrating challenging behavior.
  • Assists in informing and acquainting teachers with new ideas, programs, strategies and trends in the area of behavioral intervention.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP).
  • Collaborates with other offices and individuals within AACPS that support students with challenging behaviors.
  • Provides individual, family and group training and crisis intervention to families emotionally impacted with having a child with emotional disabilities and challenging behaviors and dealing with major disruptions.
  • Provides technical assistance and consultation to staff around behavioral issues, family impact of having a child with special needs, working with families form a variety of cultural backgrounds, and the development of strategies to work effectively with families.
  • Manages assigned caseload including but not limited to scheduling, assessment, paperwork, attending meetings, and conducting home visits per the IEP or IFSP.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education

  • Bachelor''s Degree in social work, clinical psychology, psychology, sociology, special education or related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required;
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Experience

  • Three (3) years professional experience providing behavioral consultation and intervention services or teaching experience related to children with challenging behaviors and their families or in a related functional area required;
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the employee to successfully perform the duties of the position.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).

Licenses and Certifications

Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.

  • Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Professional Certificate appropriate to the assigned teaching content area issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) preferred. and
  • Hold or be eligible for Special Education Certificate issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) preferred; and
  • Hold or be eligible for Board Certified Behavior Specialist (BCBA) Certification issued by Behavior Analyst Certification Board, Inc preferred.
  • Hold or be eligible for Driver''s License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required;
  • Daily access to reliable transportation.
