ROLE
We need an experienced Senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA) at the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO). GPO is the federal agency that produces and distributes the official publications of the U.S. Government, and this contract supports the databases behind business systems across the agency. In this role, you will serve as the senior technical resource for all SQL Server administration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning activities. You will also lead proactive capacity planning and system health monitoring for SQL Server and SQL Cluster environments, manage and resolve assigned RFCs and ServiceNow tickets in accordance with operational SLAs, and collaborate with the Senior Oracle DBA and mid-level team members to ensure consistent operational coverage across the full database environment. RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as the senior technical resource for all SQL Server administration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning activities
• Lead proactive capacity planning and system health monitoring for SQL Server and SQL Cluster environments
• Manage and resolve assigned RFCs and ServiceNow tickets in accordance with operational SLAs
• Assist internal customers/users with building, configuring, and troubleshooting SQL databases
• Troubleshoot application-level integration issues tied to SQL Server (e.g., SharePoint connectivity)
• Produce weekly support activity reports documenting work performed and outcomes
• Collaborate with the Senior Oracle DBA and mid-level team members to ensure consistent operational coverage across the full database environment
• Maintain documentation of system configurations, changes, and troubleshooting procedures

BACKGROUND/REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience as a SQL Database Administrator in enterprise production environments
• Demonstrated expertise across: SQL, SQL Server, SQL Clustering, SQL Scripting, and PL/SQL
• Working familiarity with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, and MS Access (multi-platform environment; team-wide technology coverage is a proposal evaluation factor)
• DBA III-level competency, demonstrated across the following areas:
  • Provisioning & Config: Designs and automates Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) golden configurations
  • Backup/Restore: Governs backup/DR strategy and leads recovery drills
  • Patching: Sets patching cadence and risk controls
  • Performance Tuning: Systematic, metrics-driven tuning (internals/optimizer/storage-level)
  • HA/DR: Architects multi-region Disaster Recovery solutions
  • Monitoring & Alerting: Tunes alerting thresholds and builds monitoring dashboards
  • Security & Compliance: Owns security policy and leads audits
  • Scripting & Automation: Sets standards and governance for automation practices
  • Incident Management: Leads incident command, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis (RCA)
• Experience with ITSM/ticketing platforms (e.g., ServiceNow) for request lifecycle management
• Experience with database monitoring/capacity planning tools (e.g., Idera, SolarWinds)
• Experience troubleshooting application-level integrations with SQL Server (e.g., SharePoint)

DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

• Professional Oracle or SQL certifications
• Prior federal government or GSA Schedule task order experience
• Cloud-hosted SQL environment experience (Azure SQL, AWS RDS, or similar)
• Experience mentoring or providing technical oversight to mid-level DBA staff

HOURS

• 40 hours per week. 8 hours per day between core hours of 7:30am-6:00pm EST.
• Periodic after-hours availability for scheduled patching, reboots, and maintenance

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION

• Employment Classification Eligibility – W2

RELOCATION

• Not eligible for relocation benefits

COMPENSATION

• Salary range: $125,000 – $135,000
