Job Details
We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our client's Finance team. This position will report directly to the Controller and play an important role in month-end close, general ledger accounting, financial reporting, payroll administration, budgeting and financial analysis.
This is not primarily an AP/AR position. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with income statement accounts, including revenue and expenses, and will understand how accounting activity ultimately flows through the P&L.
Responsibilities will include:
Assist with month-end close, including preparation and posting of journal entries
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
Prepare revenue and expense journal entries, accruals, prepaids and reclassifications
Prepare and review supporting schedules for balance sheets and income statements
Analyze revenue and expense activity and investigate fluctuations or discrepancies
Prepare monthly budget-to-actual variance analyses and explanations
Assist with monthly forecasting and the annual budgeting process
Partner with internal departments to gather financial information and understand budget variances
Support the end-to-end biweekly payroll process, including review of time and attendance information, payroll adjustments and final payroll review
Prepare payroll-related journal entries and account reconciliations
Research and resolve payroll discrepancies
Assist with multi-state payroll tax administration and establishment of new state payroll accounts
Provide backup support for AP and AR activities as needed
Review corporate credit card and employee expense activity
Review and validate sales commission calculations
Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for the annual external audit
Identify accounting discrepancies and prepare appropriate adjustments
Assist the Controller and Finance leadership with additional reporting and special projects
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
5+ years of accounting experience preferred
Strong hands-on month-end close and general ledger experience
Experience preparing journal entries, including revenue and expense-related entries
Working knowledge of income statements/P&Ls and financial reporting
Hands-on payroll processing experience required
Experience with payroll reconciliations and payroll-related journal entries
Exposure to budgeting, forecasting and/or budget-to-actual variance analysis
Strong understanding of accruals, prepaids, account reconciliations and financial statement activity
Strong Excel skills
Experience with accounting and payroll/HRIS systems
Multi-state payroll experience is a plus
Audit support experience is a plus
Nonprofit, association, membership or recurring-revenue experience is a plus, but not required
Strong analytical skills with the ability to research discrepancies and explain financial activity
Comfortable working independently in a primarily remote environment while collaborating closely with Finance and other departments
Ability to travel to the Bethlehem, PA headquarters periodically for planned meetings and events
