NOW CFO is conducting a private search on behalf of a growing organization in the healthcare/recovery services sector. We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant for a temp-to-hire opportunity. This role is critical in overseeing accounting operations across multiple entities, supporting financial reporting accuracy, and providing leadership within the accounting team.
About the Role
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the accounting records for up to five entities, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and month-end close. This position oversees daily and monthly accounting operations, supports complex financial reporting, and acts as a lead within the accounting team in the Controller's absence. Prior experience in the healthcare or healthcare/recovery services industry is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and process accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, account allocations, month-end close, journal entries, and account analysis
- Prepare daily bank balance reports, manage bank deposits and deposit logs, and complete monthly bank reconciliations
- Prepare monthly and annual cost reports, including LA County DMH and San Diego County reporting, cost analysis, and reconciliation of units and payments
- Develop and review complex financial and account reporting requirements, including preparation of monthly and annual financial statements by the 10th of each month
- Provide analyses of financial data needed in fiscal and budgetary planning
- Manage business and property tax returns and business licenses
- Oversee fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, depreciation reports, and reconciliations
- Serve as an integral participant in the year-end audit
- Execute General Journal Entries as authorized
- Maintain accounting policies and procedures and support the design and delivery of specialized projects
- Provide direct supervision of accounting staff, including daily and monthly task management, performance reviews, and team development
- Act as the lead in the Controller's absence
- Serve as a model of expert practice, transmitting procedural expertise to accounting office staff through demonstration, teaching, and consultation
- Maintain data integrity and security across all computer systems
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and positive working relationships with vendors, staff, and leadership
Must-Have Qualifications
- Prior experience in the healthcare or healthcare/recovery services industry
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business required (High School Diploma or GED minimum)
- 5+ years of advanced accounting experience across accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, banking and cash management, reconciliations, account analysis, monthly financial statements, audits, and special projects
- Minimum 3 years of direct supervision of accounting staff, including daily oversight and annual performance reviews
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Pro, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word
- Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, personal initiative, and professionalism
- Ability to work independently, prioritize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with multi-entity accounting (up to five entities)
- Experience with LA County DMH and/or San Diego County cost reporting
- Advanced Excel and financial reporting skills
