This is a specialized role which requires physical interaction with hardware equipment in a simulated data center environment, utilizing Google labs, power, and safety equipment. Regular development and processing of engineering hardware must be performed on site.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience in electronics packaging/server systems/data center or related industry.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field.
  • Experience with mechanical product design and documentation using 3D CAD tools.
  • Experience in designing and analyzing with detailed tolerance analysis and tolerance loop methodologies.
  • Experience in evaluating and designing infrastructure systems in the IT and data center spaces.

About the job

As a Senior Staff Product Design Engineer, you will design and evaluate our data center systems, identify product requirements, and contribute to research and project planning. From the chip to chiller, you are responsible for designing and optimizing products within our architecture that will change and scale with Google's continued growth. The demand for design, development, and deployment of the latest technologies require a holistic view, requiring innovative balancing of physical, power, thermal, interconnectivity, and collaborative co-design in the data center space. Defining, driving, and designing the next generation of densified systems will be key to Google’s success.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $237,000-$329,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Act as a "go-to" technical leader with in-depth design and architectural knowledge of IT equipment and data centers culminating towards highly connected machine learning systems.
  • Lead projects to resource and enable qualification of products from concept design to final production and deployment, collaborate with cross-functional leaders and external vendors/partners to maintain and improve design, development/qualification processes.
  • Contribute to overall system architecture from “chip to chiller” to optimize TCO of overall IT infrastructure, develop holistic designs/architectures from package to data center level optimizing for cost and efficiency while innovating for performance, and effective density in deployment.
  • Develop appropriate specifications and test procedures as necessary to ensure desired reliability and performance of electronic equipment, collaborate, supervise, mentor, and motivate internal and external teams, to design and develop excellent products.
