Job Summary:

We are seeking an innovative and highly motivated Senior Scientist to lead the development of next-generation enzymatic electrochemical sensing technologies and improving the performance of current products. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, optimizing, and commercializing strip-based amperometric biosensors for diagnostic and monitoring applications. This individual will combine deep technical expertise in enzymatic sensor chemistry, electrochemical measurements, and product development with strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, development, optimization, and characterization of enzymatic electrochemical sensors and associated assay chemistries.
• Develop and enhance strip-based amperometric sensor platforms, including electrode design, reagent formulation, enzyme immobilization, and manufacturing processes.
• Investigate sensor performance characteristics, including sensitivity, specificity, linearity, accuracy, interference rejection, stability, and shelf-life.
• Drive experimental design, data analysis, and root-cause investigations to solve complex technical challenges.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and product management to transition technologies from concept to commercialization.
• Design and execute studies for sensor verification, validation, and product performance qualification.
• Identify emerging technologies and incorporate innovative approaches to improve sensor performance and manufacturing robustness.
• Maintain detailed documentation and ensure compliance with quality system requirements.
• Prepare technical reports, invention disclosures, patent applications for regulatory submissions.
• Mentor junior scientists and contribute to building technical excellence within the organization.
• Represent the organization in technical reviews, customer interactions, and scientific conferences.

Experience Requirements:

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related scientific discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of industrial experience developing enzymatic electrochemical sensors, biosensors, or diagnostic technologies.
• Strong hands-on experience with enzymatic amperometric sensor development, including enzyme selection, immobilization strategies, mediator chemistry, and assay optimization.
• Demonstrated expertise in strip-based amperometric sensor technologies and disposable electrochemical test strips.
• Deep understanding of electrochemical techniques including chronoamperometry, cyclic voltammetry, and impedance measurements.
• Experience with sensor characterization, analytical performance evaluation, and troubleshooting.
• Strong data analysis and statistical evaluation skills.
• Proven ability to independently lead scientific projects from concept through product development.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:

• Experience developing glucose, ketone, lactate, creatinine, or other enzymatic biosensor products.
• Knowledge of screen-printing, electrode fabrication, and sensor strip manufacturing processes.
• Experience with point-of-care diagnostics, wearable biosensors, or continuous monitoring technologies.
• Familiarity with Design Controls, Risk Management, and regulated product development environments.
• Track record of patents, peer-reviewed publications, or successful product launches.
• Experience leading cross-functional technical teams.

• Capacity to lift and carry up to [25–50] pounds as required.
• Comfort with performing repetitive physical tasks.
• Able to bend, reach, stoop, or climb as needed.
• Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions (e.g., noise, temperature, equipment).
• Proficiency in operating tools, machinery, or technical equipment.
• Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) required.

Work Location: Onsite in Waltham, MA

Targeted Salary Range: $120,000 t0 $170,000 annually
