Nobody went into accounting to spend the first week of every month matching transactions by hand. Maxima was built so they dont have to. Our agents do the accounting work itself: journal entries, transaction matching, reconciliations, and flux analysis, in real time and to SOX standards. Accountants review and approve. Nothing posts without a person signing off. We remove the grind, not the human.

Maxima is the first agentic AI platform for enterprise accounting. Our founders oversaw the finance org at Rubrik and built the month-end close systems at Twitter and Netflix. Weve raised $41M from Redpoint Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, and Audacious Ventures, and were backed by finance leaders at OpenAI, Rubrik, and Vanta. Maxima runs in production at Scale AI, Rippling, Glean, and SpotOn.

The role

We are working on some of the hardest problems in enterprise automation, with an engineering team that includes staff-level talent from Robinhood, Glean, Google, Netflix, and Meta. The system handles high-volume financial data and complex accounting workflows, and every execution has to be accurate and reliable, because the output is a companys books.

As a Senior or Staff Engineer, you will drive initiatives with broad business and technical impact. The role is not tied to a single area: senior and staff engineers here take on our most important and complex problems, own major product and engineering areas, and work directly with customers. Beyond technical excellence, we value engineers who are curious and take initiative.

What youll do

• Build the agentic systems that power real-world enterprise accounting automation

• Scale the platform to support large and growing enterprise workloads

• Architect a durable and scalable financial data processing layer

• Build the infrastructure that powers our agentic systems

• Solve intricate accounting workflows through clean and robust abstractions

What were looking for

• Typically 5 or more years building systems at high-growth companies

• Strong familiarity with web development, relational databases, and distributed systems

• A record of owning a product or engineering area end to end and driving initiatives that cut across teams

• Ability to design, deploy, and iterate on infrastructure that has to be accurate and reliable under high-volume financial data

• Comfort working directly with customers to understand real-world requirements

• Strong communication and collaboration skills; you raise the bar for the people around you

Nice to have

• Experience with AI agents, data pipelines, mission-critical systems such as fintech, or complex workflow engines

• Experience with any of our stack: Go, TypeScript, and Python services, React on the front end, GCP and Kubernetes, and LLM integrations throughout

Where and how youll work

This role is based in our San Mateo office. We value in-person collaboration and are in office four to five days a week for our on-site roles.
