Position Type: Long-Term Contract

Position Overview

System One is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Analyst to support the design and development of advanced nuclear reactor technologies. This role focuses on performing structural and finite element analyses (FEA) of reactor vessels, reactor internals, containment structures, and nuclear island components operating in high-temperature and radiation environments.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with structural mechanics, ANSYS, ASME design codes, and engineering analysis for complex mechanical systems. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to next-generation nuclear energy projects while working alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural and mechanical analyses of reactor systems, vessels, internals, and nuclear island components.
  • Conduct finite element analyses (FEA) to evaluate structural integrity under thermal, pressure, seismic, and operational loading conditions.
  • Analyze equipment in accordance with applicable engineering codes and standards including ASME BPVC, ASCE, and AISC.
  • Support structural evaluations including stress, fatigue, fracture mechanics, buckling, creep, and thermal analyses.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, systems, and design engineers to optimize component designs for safety, manufacturability, and performance.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, and design documentation.
  • Perform peer reviews to ensure compliance with engineering quality standards.
  • Support design reviews and provide technical recommendations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership as needed.
  • Serve as a technical resource for structural analysis activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of structural analysis experience (or equivalent combination of advanced degree and experience).
  • Strong background in finite element analysis (FEA) using ANSYS.
  • Experience with SolidWorks and structural modeling.
  • Thorough understanding of:
    • Structural mechanics
    • Stress analysis
    • Fracture mechanics
    • Fatigue analysis
    • Thermal analysis
    • Buckling analysis
    • Creep and inelastic analysis
  • Experience working with pressure vessel and piping codes including:
    • ASME Section III
    • ASME Section VIII Division 2
    • ASME B31.1 and/or B31.3
  • Experience performing engineering calculations and documenting analytical results.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nuclear industry experience.
  • Seismic analysis experience using response spectrum and time-history methods.
  • Knowledge of:
    • ASCE 4
    • ASCE 43
    • AISC N690
    • AISC 360
    • AWS D1.1
    • AWS D1.6
  • Experience working under quality assurance programs such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.
  • Proficiency with Mathcad.
  • Programming experience with Python is a plus.
  • Experience supporting advanced reactor, power generation, or other highly regulated engineering projects.
