Senior Structural Engineer
Fulton, Maryland

MW Talent is partnering with a well-established, multi-discipline engineering consulting firm to hire a Senior Structural Engineer for its DC Metro area office in Fulton, Maryland.

This is a full-time opportunity for a senior structural engineer who wants to stay hands-on technically while also taking on project leadership, mentoring, client relationship management, and business development. The right candidate will have strong AEC consulting experience, structural design strength, client-facing confidence, and interest in helping lead and grow a team.

This role is best suited for someone who has experience leading projects, working with clients, developing proposals, mentoring junior engineers, and supporting team growth. The firm is looking for someone who brings both technical depth and a business development mindset.

This role is a balanced mix of technical execution, leadership, and client-focused business development. The expected balance is approximately 60% to 70% technical engineering and project delivery, 15% to 20% mentoring and team leadership, and 10% to 15% business development, proposal support, networking, and client relationship management.

Business development does not mean the candidate needs to bring a large book of business. The focus is on growing existing client relationships, supporting proposals, staying active in the industry, representing the firm well, and helping create repeat business.

Work Schedule:

  • This role is based in Fulton, Maryland.
  • Hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely.

  • Relocation

  • Lead design team efforts and mentor junior engineers.
  • Manage project teams for budget, schedule, and quality control.
  • Develop fee proposals and qualifications-based proposals in support of business development efforts.
  • Collaborate with architects, owners, contractors, and internal engineering teams.
  • Prepare and review structural drawings, calculations, and technical documents.
  • Work directly with clients and provide consulting services.
  • Support business development efforts through proposal support, client communication, and industry involvement.
  • Help grow existing client relationships and support repeat business.
  • Work closely with other office locations and structural engineering groups.
  • Contribute to office goals, department culture, and team development.
  • Travel as needed for client meetings, site visits, and project work.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer registration.
  • Candidates should have an established presence in the DC Metro market.
  • 10 to 15 years of structural engineering experience.
  • AEC consulting engineering experience required.
  • Experience designing steel, concrete, and masonry structures.
  • Experience managing projects, budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Experience working directly with clients.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading design teams.
