Newport Beach, California
This is not a general structural engineering role. You will lead complex, high-stakes healthcare facility projects under strict OSHPD oversight from day one. If you have not personally managed multiple OSHPD projects through all phases — design, permitting, and construction administration — you will not succeed here. You must hold an active California S.E. license. Not a P.E. with structural experience. Not "license-pending." A California Structural Engineer license is non-negotiable, and if you don't have it, do not apply. You must bring 5–10 years of direct structural engineering experience on healthcare projects governed by OSHPD regulations. If your background is primarily commercial, residential, or industrial work, you will find yourself constantly behind on the regulatory complexity and documentation rigor this work demands. You will act as Prime Consultant and lead multidisciplinary teams of architects, MEP engineers, and outside consultants. If you have not previously held full project leadership authority — including running client meetings, negotiating scope, and making final design decisions — this role will feel like you've been promoted too soon. You must be fluent in steel, concrete, masonry, wood, and metal stud design, and you must have extensive experience engineering structures in seismically active regions. If you need to look up base shear calculations or haven't designed to ASCE 7 seismic provisions dozens of times, you are not ready. You will use ETABS, RISA 3D, and SAFE daily to model and analyze complex structural systems. If you are not highly proficient in all three platforms, you will slow down the entire team. You will be responsible for project budgets, fee proposals, contract review, and profitability tracking. If you have only been a technical designer and have never managed financials or scoped work independently, this position will overwhelm you.You will mentor junior engineers and review all deliverables for technical accuracy and code compliance. If you are not confident teaching others or performing rigorous QA/QC, you are not senior enough for this role. This role requires a B.S. in Civil Engineering with structural emphasis; an M.S. in Structural Engineering is strongly preferred and may be decisive between candidates.
