At CVR, a Senior Engineer independently develops, designs, and analyzes electrical power systems and substations. In addition to leading the design team, this engineer provides high-level technical oversight and serves as the primary escalation point for complex decisions, collaborating with the VP of Engineering while supporting constructors, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and clients.
Responsibilities:
Creates designs independently.
Produces conceptual designs and associated information.
Provides technical guidance to engineers, designers and drafters.
Serves as technical lead to the design team, with the role evolving into full people management responsibilities (performance feedback, mentoring, workload planning).
Specifies major equipment such as generators, transformers, circuit breakers and switchgear.
Controls quality of specified equipment and design packages.
Supervises production of technical drawings such as one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, interconnection drawings, equipment arrangement plans, section views, grounding plans, conduit plans, cable tray plans and all associated installation details.
Performs electrical studies such as power flow, short-circuit, device evaluation, device coordination, ground grid analysis, lightning protection analysis, and arc-flash hazard assessment.
Acts as a company representative in client-facing engagements, contributing to project scoping, proposals, and technical discussions. Partners with the VP of Engineering during complex or sensitive conversations, while managing communication with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
Takes ownership and responsibility with each project.
Qualifications:
BSEE from ABET approved university.
10+ years experience.
Licensed as a professional engineer.
NCEES record a plus.
Participation in professional societies, particularly IEEE.
Thorough understanding of industry standards and guidelines including ANSI, IEEE, NEMA, NEC, NESC, and others.
Understanding constructability of design, field concepts, practices, and procedures.
