    Job Description

    Our Mission:

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We're turning today's impossible into tomorrow's standard -from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

The Sub-System Lead Engineer (SSLE) in Emerging New Markets (ENM) is an IC responsible for leading the development, definition, and documentation of requirements for applicable sub-systems (or Solutions) in diverse domains such as Interface between autonomous driver and vehicle motion platform and Battery Management Systems in Non-Automotive Applications. A growth mindset and a high level of comfort with ambiguity are essential for this role.

The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, ensuring technical specifications are well-defined, behaviors are clearly documented, and compliance with requirements is maintained throughout the development lifecycle. As a technical domain expert and single point of contact, SSLE provides guidance on system design, troubleshooting, and optimization and owns the development and delivery of solutions, driving cross team and group efforts.

    What You'll Do

    • Create and maintain Behavioral Test Specifications (BTS) documents for applicable subsystems.

    • Collaborate with Functional System Architects and Senior Systems Engineers on requirement structure and intent and implement into testable specifications.

    • Collaborate with System Engineers to decompose high-level requirements into lower-level requirements.

    • Lead development meetings and discussions with key stakeholders to develop behavioral requirements.

    • Create and maintain documentation in requirements management tools (e.g., DNG, Markdown, etc.)

    • Develop detailed SysML diagrams such as use case diagrams and activity diagrams to support solution function development in Rhapsody.

    • Lead the root cause analysis for all applicable sub-system related issues and translate solutions into new or revised requirements.

    • Lead the sub-system level FMEAs and collaborate on System and Component FMEAs and manage FMEA processes across applicable sub-systems.

    • Collaborate with V&V engineers and software engineers to review requirements and software implementation to ensure compliance.

    • Create/execute features/stories in Jira to manage requirements development activities.

    • Take part as a key stakeholder in regular ART meetings including Iteration Planning, Iteration Reviews, Daily Standups as needed and Program Increment ceremonies.

    • Works independently; receives minimal guidance. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

    • Serve as a mentor to more junior level employees, providing coaching and guidance on difficult issues.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Electrical, Systems, Software or related fields)

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Safety Critical System Engineering.
