As part of the Tesla Supplier Industrialization Engineering (SIE) team for Energy Power Equipment parts, you will be responsible for critical substation power equipment and top-level assembly development processes, qualification, and life-cycle activities within the supply chain. The job involves communicating well with internal and external teams, traveling to suppliers in different regions, and making on-the-spot critical decisions. The goal is delivering on-time quantities of high-quality power equipment into Teslas deployment processes to enable rapid development cycles, product launches, and stable production.

Plan, organize, direct, and conduct supplier industrialization-related activities within the supply chain team. Develop, manage, audit, and improve supplier planning and execution of component manufacturing, assembly, and quality control processes from the development phase to qualification and mass production. Accountable for supplier audits to ensure suppliers ability to meet performance, delivery, and reliability expectations.

Provide leadership for New Product Introduction (NPI) at suppliers through conducting and implementing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) analysis and drive design solutions during the early design phase with the Design Engineering team. Facilitate communication and clarification of technical requirements and Critical to Quality (CTQ) items that drive robust supplier processes to meet requirements from Design Quality and Deployment teams.

Accountable for leading tracking and improving supplier manufacturing process development and launch readiness for new products and design changes. Drive supplier improvements in materials, design, manufacturability, quality, or cost reduction. Manage supplier quality performance and work closely with Field Quality teams to address Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) involving design and/or process changes to ensure actions are robust, sustainable, and implemented for similar potential concerns across manufacturing lines and/or suppliers.

Domestic and international travel (average of 30-40% of the time) is required to engage with suppliers, possibly on short notice.

Requirements:

  • 5 years of experience supporting high and medium voltage substation equipment or similar in a Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering role. Will accept a Masters degree in the same fields with 3-year work experience.
  • Minimum 3-year experience in Quality Systems, PPAP, APQP, NPI, and product inspection/testing.
  • 3-year experience with 3D CAD, DFM, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), statistical process control (SPC) is a plus.
  • Experience with Testing/Commissioning MV/HV Equipment is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate and direct supplier activities at the management level.
  • Previous experience managing safety-critical parts.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, hands-on, and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent team-building skills in dealing with suppliers, peers, and other functional areas.
  • Strong technical writing and discussion ability to explain complex issues in a concise and plain manner.
