Senior Survey CAD Technician

Land Surveying | Princeton, NJ (Hybrid Field/Office)

The Opportunity

A well-established, multi-disciplinary engineering and surveying firm is seeking a Senior Survey CAD Technician to join its growing Survey Department in Princeton, NJ.

This role is ideal for a survey professional who has been serious about building a long-term career in land surveying and is ready to take the next step. The right candidate will play a key role in production, QA/QC, and coordination with field crews — with a clear path toward licensure and future leadership responsibilities for those who want it.

While this is primarily an office-based role, occasional field work is required to support project needs and maintain strong coordination between office and field operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage survey mapping deliverables while supporting department goals related to quality, efficiency, and profitability
  • Perform survey computations and QA/QC reviews prior to final sign-off by the Professional Land Surveyor
  • Interpret design drawings, plats, zoning data, and contractual documents to support survey execution

Produce:

  • Boundary, ALTA, and topographic surveys
  • Existing conditions surveys
  • Minor and major subdivision plans (preliminary & final)
  • Construction stakeout, plot plans, final and as-built surveys
  • Coordinate with field crews and other CAD technicians assigned to projects
  • Conduct deed, record, and survey research as required
  • Assist with client coordination and technical communication
  • Support cost estimating and proposal development
  • Participate in field work on an as-needed basis
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of survey workflows and standards

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 4+ years of professional experience in land surveying, civil drafting, and/or civil design
  • Valid Driver’s License (field work required on an as-needed basis)
  • Strong understanding of survey fundamentals, workflows, and deliverables

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline
  • Professional credentials such as NSPS CST, LSIT, or PLS (or actively pursuing licensure)
  • FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot License is a plus
  • Experience working in both field and office environments

Proficiency with:

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley MicroStation
  • Survey and point cloud software such as Trimble Business Center (TBC), Leica Infinity, Cyclone, Register 360, CloudWorx, Carlson, or similar
  • Exposure to laser scanning processing and registration is a plus
  • Familiarity with modern survey equipment (robotic total stations, GPS, laser scanners, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of State Plane Coordinate Systems and grid-to-ground conversions
  • Solid technical math skills (geometry, trigonometry, survey calculations)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Compensation

Target Pay Range: $33 – $45 per hour

(Higher-level compensation or title may be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.)

Benefits & Long-Term Value

  • This opportunity offers a best-in-class benefits package designed to support long-term career stability and growth, including:
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Life insurance and short-/long-term disability
  • Paid maternity leave
  • Generous PTO and paid holidays
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Employee Assistance Program

Why This Role?
