Your Impact

We are seeking a Senior Sustaining Engineer to support the lifecycle of Particle Measuring Systems' deployed products and solutions. This role plays a critical part in ensuring product reliability, resolving complex technical issues, and driving continuous product improvement. This position requires strong technical troubleshooting capability, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to translate field feedback into actionable product improvements.

The Role

The Senior Sustaining Engineer acts as a technical escalation point for field and service teams, partnering closely with R&D, product management, quality, and customer support organizations to diagnose issues, implement corrective actions, and maintain product performance in the field.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as Level 3 technical escalation for complex product and system issues impacting customers or field service teams

  • Investigate product failures and field issues using structured root cause analysis methodologies

  • Work closely with R&D engineering teams to identify design-related issues and implement corrective actions

  • Drive Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to resolve recurring product or system issues

  • Support engineering change processes including design updates, firmware revisions, and product improvements

  • Analyze field data, service reports, and reliability trends to identify systemic product issues

  • Develop technical documentation including troubleshooting guides, service bulletins, and engineering change recommendations

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to service engineers and junior engineering staff

  • Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, and Product Management teams to improve product performance and serviceability

  • Participate in product lifecycle management activities including sustaining engineering reviews and reliability improvement initiatives Resolve technical and tactical issues through structured problem-solving and collaboration

  • Communicate progress on resolutions to internal stakeholders and help with customer management as required

  • Continuously evaluate processes for improvements in efficiency, quality, and safety

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years of relevant engineering experience supporting complex systems, instrumentation, or automation technologies; OR equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience supporting fielded products or sustaining engineering activities

  • Demonstrated success diagnosing complex technical issues across hardware, software, and system integrations

  • Proficiency in coding and scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell, or similar) aimed at accelerating troubleshooting activities, identifying effective workarounds, and reducing engineering effort required for bug fixing

  • Strong problem-solving skills using structured methodologies such as 8D, A3, or RCA

  • Experience supporting complex instrumentation or automation systems in production environments

  • Ability to interpret system architectures, control schematics, and communication protocols

  • Experience working with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and OPC UA

  • Understanding of regulated manufacturing environments (GMP, GAMP, FDA, Annex 1 preferred)

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across engineering and customer support teams

  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and guide technical problem-solving activities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in regulated or controlled manufacturing environments

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • This role primarily operates in an office/lab/manufacturing environment. Must be able to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods of time

  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. may be required

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary range: $95,000 - 140,000, depending on experience

  • Our compensation philosophy: we offer competitive pay based on market data, including local, national, and industry benchmarks. For new hires, offers are generally within the established min- to mid-point of the range for the role, with flexibility to recognize experience, skills, and education.
