Role: Senior Swift Engineer - macOS AI Platform
Location: Sunnyvale, CA– Hybrid (3 days/week onsite)
Duration: 6 months w2 contract the possibility of extension
Pay Range: $110-$115/hour on W2

 
About the Role
Our client is building a native macOS application that delivers AI-powered data insights for business users. This is a systems-level contract engagement where you'll work across AI runtime, platform integrations, deterministic data execution, or adaptive macOS UI based on your strengths and interests.
The application follows a structured, multi-stage pipeline that transforms natural language into verified and traceable results. Engineers will work within a layered architecture consisting of 20+ Swift Package Manager (SPM) targets with strict dependency boundaries. This role is ideal for candidates who have experience shipping production macOS desktop applications and enjoy owning end-to-end technical responsibilities.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Own one or more technical areas within a native AI pipeline, including:
    • AI runtime and orchestration
    • Platform integrations
    • Deterministic execution
    • Adaptive macOS UI
  • Design and implement production-quality Swift code within a layered SPM architecture (20+ targets) while maintaining strict dependency boundaries.
  • Build AI orchestration capabilities, including:
    • Structured output extraction
    • Multi-stage routing
    • Tool calling
    • Context management
    • Response synthesis
  • Develop platform integrations such as:
    • Protocol-based connector clients
    • Enterprise data access
    • Entitlements
    • Sandboxing
    • Identity management
    • Persistence boundaries
  • Build deterministic execution pathways including joins, aggregations, rankings, filters, and complete data provenance.
  • Develop adaptive macOS user interfaces using SwiftUI with AppKit interoperability, supporting:
    • Desktop window management
    • Keyboard-first workflows
    • Streaming content updates
    • State management
    • Accessibility
  • Write and maintain automated tests using XCTest and Swift Testing.
  • Ensure shared mutable state is implemented using actors or Sendable value types with proper Swift 6 concurrency isolation.
 
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience using Swift.
  • Experience shipping native macOS desktop applications (not iOS-only).
  • Strong understanding of Swift concurrency, including:
    • Actors
    • Async/Await
    • Sendable
    • Structured concurrency
    • Typed throws
  • Experience working with layered, modular Swift Package Manager (SPM) architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of protocol-oriented programming and dependency injection.
  • Experience working with pre-commit hooks, SwiftLint, SwiftFormat, and enforced commit conventions.
 
Preferred Experience
AI Runtime & Orchestration
  • LLM integration, including guided generation, structured output, tool calling, and streaming inference.
  • Experience with ML inference frameworks and model orchestration.
  • Token budget management.
  • Prompt composition.
  • Multi-stage pipeline orchestration.
  • Evaluation and benchmarking of non-deterministic AI outputs.
Platform & Integrations
  • Protocol-based connector/client architectures (SSE, stdio, REST, OData).
  • macOS system services including:
    • Process lifecycle management (launchd, SMJobBless)
    • Entitlements
    • Sandboxing
  • Code signing, notarization, and installer packaging for macOS distribution.
  • Enterprise data access patterns and pagination strategies.
Deterministic Execution & Data Systems
  • TabularData or equivalent data frame processing in Swift.
  • Experience implementing joins, aggregations, rankings, filters, and provenance tracking.
  • Graph or vector retrieval systems.
  • Entity resolution.
  • Schema-driven field matching and query planning.
macOS Adaptive UI
  • Production SwiftUI applications with AppKit interoperability.
  • Adaptive layouts and multi-panel desktop windowing.
  • Keyboard-first navigation.
  • Streaming UI updates connected to asynchronous data pipelines.
  • Accessibility compliance.
  • Performance optimization using Instruments profiling.
