EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree in an Information Technology related field from an accredited four-year college or university

Three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of one or more programming languages a plus (ex.C#, C++)

High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.

PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY:

Responsible for the analysis and translation of state reportable student information into solutions that are consistent with the overall educational plan and vision of the District. Provides maintenance and support for District Student Information System. Communicates with various outside agencies and internal departments and campuses to determine and define District needs.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serve as district subject-matter expert for the Student Information System, ensuring system reliability, data integrity, and compliance with state and federal reporting requirements.

  2. Analyze, configure, test, and implement Student Information System modules and updates to support enrollment, attendance, grades, scheduling, discipline, and state reporting needs.

  3. Evaluate Student Information System functionality and limitations; recommend enhancements, process improvements, and workflow optimizations.

  4. Design, develop, test, and maintain student information applications, integrations, and automated processes.

  5. Coordinate Student Information System data validation, reporting timelines, and submission accuracy for state and local agencies.

  6. Develop and deliver user documentation and training for the Student Information System and related student information applications.

  7. Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and reports to support decision-making and operational efficiency.

  8. Identify opportunities to streamline district procedures through improved data workflows and system automation.

  9. Maintain and enhance existing systems while ensuring backward compatibility and minimal disruption to campuses and departments.

  10. Conduct training sessions for campus and department users to promote effective system use and data accuracy.

  11. Maintains a basic knowledge of District curricula and instructional strategies so as to better understand the impact of information systems on teacher, student and campus performance.

  12. Collaborate with help desk personnel to resolve system issues and respond to user questions in a timely manner.

  13. Aids in assessing the functionality and limitations of various computer-related hardware and software products.

  14. Works with Director of Student Information Systems in striving to keep personnel informed on pertinent matters.

  15. Works with users to determine the needs and requirements for new applications.

  16. Works with Director of Student Information Systems in assessing staff members and job assignments effectively.

  17. Partner with district leadership to develop short- and long-term plans, establish project priorities, and align technology initiatives with instructional and operational goals.

  18. Coordinate project schedules, system processes, and cross-functional efforts to ensure successful implementations.

  19. Optimizes the processing characteristics of computer systems and reporting applications to ensure the maximum amount of productive work is generated for computer resources used.

  20. Participate in prioritizing SIS and application requests based on impact, complexity, and available resources.

  21. Evaluate and interpret evolving state and local data reporting requirements and ensure accurate delivery of mandated data in proper formats.

  22. Evaluates the school District environment to determine opportunities for streamlining procedures which result in more effective utilization of District personnel.

  23. Tests systems written by personnel assigned to project or self.

  24. Communicate system changes, best practices, and data standards to stakeholders across the district.

  25. Supervise and provide guidance to analysts and technical staff in the absence of the Director of Student Information Systems.

  26. Seeks, accepts and responds to evaluative feedback from supervisors, peers and subordinates.

  27. Works under minimum supervision.

  28. Ensure confidentiality, security, and appropriate use of student and staff data in compliance with applicable regulations.

  29. Reports to work on time every day.

  30. Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programming

Technical experience with systems networking, databases, Web development, SQL, and user support

Proficient in Structured Query Language (SQL)

Strong project management skills with effective results within an information systems environment

Ability to read and interpret technical material

Ability to establish innovative and creative approaches to problem solving

Ability to comprehend oral and written communication from various outside agencies and internal departments

Ability to communicate effectively with staff members to maintain efficient software designs and standards

Valid Texas Drivers License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to operate an automobile in the performance of assigned tasks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
