Senior Systems Control Engineer

Position Overview

The Senior Systems Controls Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, programming, and testing of advanced automation and control systems for industrial processing equipment. This position requires a strong background in controls engineering, electrical systems, motion control, software development, and machine automation.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience developing custom control systems, PLC programming, HMI applications, machine vision, and industrial networking solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop control architectures for semi-automated and fully automated industrial processing workstations.
• Develop PLC logic, electrical schematics, HMI, SCADA, and motion control systems.
• Program and integrate PLC systems, including Allen Bradley, Omron, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Sick, and Pilz.
• Develop and implement motion control systems using platforms such as Delta-Tau, Aerotech, and ACS.
• Integrate laser programming and controls, machine vision systems, data collection, file management, and industrial networking.
• Develop and maintain manufacturing-floor connectivity using LAN, OPC UA, databases, and other industry-standard protocols.
• Design reusable and maintainable control software for long-term support and modification.
• Support system acceptance testing and troubleshooting.
• Work closely with engineering, production, quality assurance, testing, materials, contract management, and sales teams.
• Develop requirements, interfaces, functionality documentation, project plans, and development schedules.
• Provide project updates, demonstrations, and documentation throughout the development process.
• Prepare detailed engineering documentation for product release.
• Evaluate existing controls development processes and recommend improvements.
• Support the development of new control logic, software interfaces, and automation solutions.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• 7+ years of experience designing custom motion control and HMI software.
• 3+ years of experience designing custom machine vision applications.
• Strong background in controls engineering and industrial automation.
• Current experience with RSLogix and Point I/O is required.
• Strong knowledge of controls development tools and environments, including OPC UA, RSLogix, CODESYS/CP One, EtherNet/IP, and related technologies.
• Experience with object-oriented design and software development methodologies.
• Knowledge of professional software design, testing, and documentation practices.
• Strong understanding of designing systems for long-term maintenance, support, and modification.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects independently and meet deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and a proactive, ownership-driven approach.
• Ability and willingness to travel occasionally.
