Senior Systems Engineer (VMware & Microsoft Infrastructure)

Responsibilities

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with deep expertise in VMware infrastructure technologies to serve as the organization's onsite technical subject matter expert for VMware, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune environments.

This individual will play a critical role in the administration, optimization, and modernization of the organization's VMware infrastructure while helping establish long-term architecture, standards, governance, and best practices. The ideal candidate is not only a strong systems administrator, but also someone who understands infrastructure architecture, can drive strategic improvements, and enjoys collaborating closely with team members through knowledge sharing and mentorship.

This is a contract to hire position located onsite in Cicero, Illinois

Qualifications

• Significant hands-on experience administering and supporting enterprise VMware environments.
• Strong expertise with:
  • VMware vSphere
  • ESXi
  • vCenter
  • VMware lifecycle management, upgrades, and performance optimization
  • Active Directory
  • Microsoft 365
  • Entra ID
  • Intune
• Experience designing, managing, and troubleshooting highly available virtualized environments.
• Experience supporting hybrid Microsoft infrastructure environments hosted on VMware platforms.
• Strong understanding of storage, compute, networking, and virtualization concepts.
• Experience with VMware capacity planning, performance tuning, disaster recovery, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
• Strong understanding of identity and access management principles.
• Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across VMware and Microsoft technology stacks.
• Experience documenting environments, implementing standards, and driving infrastructure improvements.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across teams.
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
• Must demonstrate a "can-do" attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
• Equivalent combination of professional experience and technical expertise will also be considered.
• VMware certifications (VCP, VCAP) highly preferred.
• Relevant Microsoft infrastructure certifications are a plus.
• Experience participating in virtualization migrations, datacenter transformations, or infrastructure modernization projects.

Compensation Range: 

$48-$57 per hour
