This includes administration of Windows and Linux servers, virtualization platforms, storage, system monitoring tools, patching solutions, backup systems, and related supporting infrastructure. This position plays a critical role in maintaining secure, stable, and highly available infrastructure services across the enterprise. Limited AWS knowledge is required to support hybrid infrastructure needs, but the primary focus of the role is on-premise server engineering and operations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Deploy, configure, administer, and support Windows and Linux server environments that meet Montefiore's needs and requirements
  • Manage on-premise and Cloud physical and virtual server infrastructure, including compute, storage, operating systems, and supporting platform services
  • Administer and support virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and other hypervisor technologies as needed
  • Ensure the security, stability, and compliance of server environments by implementing system hardening, patching, monitoring, access controls, and operational best practices
  • Support enterprise patching processes for server operating systems and related infrastructure components, ensuring timely remediation of vulnerabilities and operational risks
  • Implement and maintain server monitoring, alerting, logging, and performance management solutions to ensure system health, availability, and reliability
  • Perform server provisioning, upgrades, migrations, decommissioning, and lifecycle management for both physical and virtual infrastructure
  • Collaborate closely with cybersecurity teams to identify and remediate vulnerabilities, support audits, and maintain compliance with organizational security standards
  • Support backup, restore, disaster recovery, and business continuity capabilities for on-premise server systems and related infrastructure as well as Cloud based systems and platforms.
  • Troubleshoot server, virtualization, operating system, and infrastructure platform issues to restore service quickly and minimize business impact
  • Provide technical support and guidance to application teams, infrastructure teams, and third-party stakeholders regarding server hosting requirements and operational support
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to server builds, standards, configurations, procedures, support processes, and infrastructure diagrams
  • Support integration of on-premise environments with select AWS cloud services where needed for hybrid infrastructure, backup, recovery, or application hosting use cases
  • Participate in project planning and execution to ensure server infrastructure solutions are delivered on time and within budget

Requirements include:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in server engineering, systems administration, or infrastructure operations, with a solid background in deploying, administering, and supporting Windows and Linux servers in enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing on-premise infrastructure and virtualized server environments at scale is highly desirable. Previous experience working in large, complex organizations is preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of server operating systems, virtualization platforms, server monitoring, patch management, backup and restore procedures, and infrastructure support processes.
  • Experience with enterprise server lifecycle management, performance tuning, troubleshooting, security hardening, and operational support.
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services is preferred, but the role is primarily focused on on-premise server infrastructure and also Cloud-based systems.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively across infrastructure, application, and cybersecurity teams.
  • Must hold and/or be able to pass security clearance requirements, background investigation, reference, and credentials verification.

The position requires advanced knowledge of:

  • Windows Server administration, including Active Directory integration, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and core infrastructure services
  • Linux server administration, including system configuration, user and permission management, shell operations, package management, and service troubleshooting
  • Virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, template management, snapshots, clustering, and host lifecycle management
  • Server patching technologies, vulnerability remediation processes, and maintenance planning for Windows and Linux environments
  • Enterprise monitoring, alerting, logging, and performance management tools used to support server and infrastructure operations
  • Backup, restore, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes for physical and virtual server environments
  • Server hardware, storage, and connectivity concepts in data center and on-premise infrastructure environments
  • Integration of on-premise infrastructure with AWS cloud services in hybrid environments, including foundational understanding of EC2, storage, identity, networking, and backup-related services
  • Infrastructure security best practices, access controls, system hardening, and operational compliance requirements.

The candidate must possess well-developed skills in:

  • Deploying, configuring, and supporting enterprise Windows and Linux servers across development, test, and production environments
  • Managing server virtualization platforms and supporting operational activities such as provisioning, migration, capacity planning, and decommissioning
  • Troubleshooting complex server, operating system, virtualization, and infrastructure issues and restoring service in a timely manner
  • Working with diverse populations of stakeholders, including business leaders, technical information staff, application teams, and other IT professionals, to effectively communicate server-related issues and solutions
  • Documenting server standards, build procedures, operational runbooks, technical diagrams, and support processes
  • Coordinating patching, monitoring, maintenance windows, and remediation activities across multiple server environments
  • Supporting audits, security reviews, and compliance activities through disciplined operational controls and documentation.

The position must demonstrate the ability to:

  • Possess strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to effectively assess and generate solutions for complex server and infrastructure challenges
  • Respond promptly and efficiently to operational incidents affecting physical and virtual server environments, including root cause analysis and remediation planning
  • Take a leadership role in developing technical plans and solutions to address server platform challenges, which may involve coordinating with cross-functional teams, communicating with stakeholders, and implementing automation where appropriate
  • Advise management on the current and planned needs for on-premise server, virtualization, and related infrastructure investments and ensure that adequate resources are allocated to maintain a robust and secure environment
  • Possess a combination of technical expertise, operational discipline, collaboration skills, and strategic thinking abilities to effectively manage and enhance the server infrastructure environment.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Current certifications such as VMware, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server or Azure Administrator Associate, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) / Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), CompTIA Server+, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, or equivalent infrastructure-related certifications are preferred.

Enduring Mission and Distinguished History

The mission of Montefiore is to heal, to teach, to discover and to advance the health of the communities we serve.

From its beginning in 1884, as a facility for the care of patients with tuberculosis and other chronic illnesses, to the new millennium, Montefiore has been at the forefront of patient care, research and education and steadfast commitment to its community.

Our Services

We provide coordinated, compassionate and leading-edge care designed to reach people when and where they need it most. Through highly integrated teams of physicians, nurses, social workers, mental health professionals and other caregivers, we have created an innovative, seamless system of care focused around the patient.

Notable Centers of Excellence

At the intersection of Einstein science and Montefiore medicine is our commitment to scientific inquiry. This commitment has resulted in the creation of the Montefiore-Einstein Centers of Excellence in cancer care, cardiovascular services, transplantation and children’s health, where nationally recognized investigators and multidisciplinary clinical teams collaborate to develop and deliver advanced, innovative care.

Advanced Specialty and Surgical Care

We offer advanced, multidisciplinary care across specialties, delivering one standard of excellence for all. Our interventions are designed to help patients understand and manage their illness, advocate for their health, access the right treatments and receive the vital social support they need to flourish. On multiple fronts, Montefiore is developing more effective and less invasive approaches to complex problems from procedures to repair diseased hearts, protocols to treat complex cancers and medical devices designed to meet the needs of growing children.

Primary Care

With nearly 50 primary care locations throughout the New York metropolitan area, we are focusing on accessible, patient-centered primary and preventive care provided by leading physicians in the areas of family and internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and a team of experts in nursing, health education, nutrition and pharmacy.

Providing Care Without Walls

Montefiore combines its deep commitment to the community with nationally-renowned expertise to reach people in locations easiest for them. Through Montefiore’s School Health Program (MSHP), Primary Care at Home programs, mobile medical and dental health vans and health education initiatives, Montefiore provides primary care services in non-traditional settings.

Through the formation of highly integrated teams of physicians, nurses, social workers, mental health professionals, care managers and other caregivers, we provide care around the patient, when and where they need it.

Research and Education

Montefiore's partnership with Einstein advances clinical and translational research to accelerate the pace at which new discoveries become the treatments and therapies that benefit patients. Together, the two institutions are among 38 academic medical centers nationwide to be awarded a prestigious Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) by the National Institutes of Health.

The second-largest medical residency program in the country, with 1,251 residents and fellows across 89 programs, Montefiore provides the doctors of tomorrow a unique opportunity for education and training in one of the most diverse urban areas in the country — one where the population is global, the disease burden is high, and the need for quality care is great.

The partnership is further strengthened by the dual appointments of faculty and physicians across both organizations—enhancing synergies and collaborations for research, teaching and patient care.

Comprehensive Care Management

Since 1996, Montefiore has developed advanced models of care management to help patients, especially those with chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart failure and mental illness, achieve better health and improved wellbeing in a cost effective way. Montefiore goes beyond fragmented fee-for-service payments, assuming total responsibility for the quality and costs of care for some of our sickest patients.

Through CMO, Montefiore Care Management, we use a global prepayment or similar strategies to manage care for 200,000 individuals over the continuum, including hospital care, rehabilitation, outpatient care, professional services, home care, mental health counseling, community-based services, remote patient monitoring and many other programs.

Our leadership in coordinating care across multiple settings has earned us federal recognition from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as a Pioneer Accountable Care Organization. Montefiore's ACO is one of only 32 organizations in the nation, as well as the only one in New York State, to operate under this new model of providing Medicare beneficiaries with higher quality care, while reducing expenditures through enhanced care coordination.
