The Senior Systems Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Franklin, WI will collaborate with product, engineering, and design teams to modernize infrastructure provisioning. Participate actively in all phases of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance to ensure high-quality software delivery and adherence to project timelines. Participate in Agile methodologies, including weekly refinement meetings, to align technical features with business requirements. Design, build, and maintain relational databases such as Aurora, PostgreSQL, and MySQL, optimizing data query results. Develop and deploy containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes, ensuring efficient deployment and management. Monitor live systems, fix bugs, and write new features while maintaining comprehensive documentation. Provide technical leadership through design and code reviews, mentoring junior engineers, and exploring new capabilities. Develop code for infrastructure security auditing and CIS hardening standards through automation. Utilize programming languages and technologies like Python, PowerShell, Java, SQL, XML, and JSON to address technical issues and develop new features. Improve system resiliency by leveraging cloud services like AWS or Azure for deployment. Apply expertise in Git Source Control and CI/CD practices to automate deployment pipelines. Lead identification and resolution of technical problems, ensuring platform resiliency and operational excellence. Maintain a continuous integration and continuous development (CI/CD) pipeline to support ongoing software delivery. Conduct root cause analysis and ensure production stability and monitoring of the platform. Connect technical direction with business metrics, such as latency, reliability, and cost efficiency, to demonstrate strategic impact. Telecommuting permitted 2 days per week. Salary $131,373- $193,310 per year.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related field and 5 years of experience as a systems engineer, software developer, or related occupation. Experience must include 5 years of experience with each of the following: (1) AWS Cloud Services, containerized applications and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes); (2) monitoring and performance management and tuning of systems; (3) networking and Linux-based platforms; (4) modern programming and scripting languages including Python and JavaScript; (5) Linux and Windows operating systems including installation, configuration, and management in CLI; (6) Terraform and CloudFormation; (7) DevOps, CI/CD, GitOps, and Agile methodologies; (8) CI/CD pipelines and automation, GitLab CI, Jenkins, CodePipeline, or CircleCI; (9) firewalls, vulnerability management, authentication, and authorization; and (10) unit testing.
