Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Tax Preparer to join our boutique tax and advisory firm. This role is responsible for Communicating, preparing and reviewing a wide range of tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and supporting clients with proactive tax planning strategies. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, the ability to manage multiple engagements, and experience of working directly with clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review individual, corporate, partnership, and fiduciary tax returns
  • Ensure compliance with IRS regulations and applicable state/local tax laws
  • Conduct tax research and resolve complex tax issues
  • Communicate with clients to gather financial data and clarify tax positions
  • Manage multiple client engagements and meet strict filing deadlines
  • Occasionally, review work prepared by junior staff and provide guidance/training
  • Respond to IRS and state notices as needed
  • Stay current on changes in tax laws and regulations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (CPA or EA preferred)
  • 3–5+ years of tax preparation experience in a public accounting firm
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations
  • Experience with tax software (e.g., CCH Access Tax, UltraTax, or similar)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks software
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines and handle multiple clients simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active CPA license or Enrolled Agent designation
  • Experience reviewing returns and supervising junior staff
  • Exposure to high-net-worth individuals and closely held businesses
  • Familiarity with tax planning and advisory services
