About the Role
Uplinq is hiring a Senior Tax Strategist to manage our Strategy team, reporting to the VP of Tax. The VP sets the vision and designs the strategy program. This role executes it, scales it, and improves it over time.
This is a player-coach position. You will carry a full meeting load while managing the people, systems, and partnerships that let the Strategy function scale. Tax leadership is balancing compliance and strategy and does not have the bandwidth to give this team the dedicated management and development it needs. This role fills that gap.
We are looking for a CPA who leads with credibility, builds strong client relationships, and sees AI as a tool that will change how this work gets done.
What You'll Do
Lead the Strategy Team
- Manage and mentor a team of three: two Tax Strategy Admins and one Tax Strategy Advisor. Set the standard for quality, consistency, and client care.
- Serve as the technical and professional escalation point for the team's most difficult strategy questions.
- Build development plans and growth paths for direct reports, including the path from Advisor (EA-level) to CPA-level strategy work.
Own Client Strategy, Personally
- Carry your own book of business, leading up to 12 client strategy meetings per week and modeling the standard you expect from the team.
- Deliver advanced, holistic strategies across tax minimization, estate planning, business succession, and insurance alignment.
Execute and Scale the Strategy System
- Partner with the VP of Tax to execute, scale, and continuously improve the strategy program, turning it into the day-to-day system the team runs on so clients get consistency rather than an ad hoc experience.
- Incorporate ideas and input from the Tax Strategy Advisor and the rest of the team to strengthen the system as it scales.
- Develop and drive a proactive scheduling plan that gets every client on the calendar, rather than waiting for clients to reach out.
- Refine SOPs and playbooks so the team's output stays consistent as the business grows.
Build the Referral Partner Bench
- Build and maintain a curated library of vetted referral partners, including debt and tax resolution, legal, insurance, and investment advisory specialists, so client needs get solved end to end even when they fall outside our core services.
- Own relationships with key referral partners and evaluate new ones as client needs arise.
Leverage Elite Tech and AI
- Use our strategy stack, including TaxPlanIQ and Maverick, and integrate AI tools such as ChatGPT and TaxGPT into research, communication, strategy development and champion AI adoption across the Strategy team.
Qualifications
- Active CPA license required. This is a credibility requirement for high-net-worth client strategy work, distinct from our EA-credentialed Advisor role.
- 5+ years of progressive tax strategy experience in public accounting or a high-growth advisory environment.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing complex tax and wealth strategies for business owners, beyond return preparation.
- Strong people-management experience required.
- A track record of executing and scaling a process or system you built.
- Strong interpersonal and client-facing skills, with an understanding of the challenges small business owners face.
- A tech-forward mindset, with a demonstrated willingness to adopt and champion AI tools to increase your own and your team's efficiency.
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly scaling remote startup environment.
