Job Description

Applied Research Solutions is seeking a Senior Technical Documentation Specialist to support mission-critical DoD programs by developing, maintaining, and managing clear, accurate, and audience-focused technical documentation. This role will work closely with engineers, program managers, government customers, and other stakeholders to translate complex technical information into well-structured documentation, reports, guides, specifications, and supporting materials. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented technical communicator with strong writing and editing skills and the ability to manage multiple documentation products while adhering to established standards, formats, and configuration management processes.

This role is five days a week onsite at Hanscom AFB.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Obtain, analyze, and synthesize technical information from multiple sources to develop clear, accurate, and audience-focused documentation.
  • Determine the appropriate structure, organization, tone, and level of detail for technical documentation based on the intended audience and purpose.
  • Develop, edit, and maintain a wide range of technical documentation, including requirements documents, design reference materials, technical point papers, user guides, instruction manuals, policies, procedures, and related products.
  • Collaborate with engineers, program managers, government customers, and other stakeholders to gather technical requirements, validate content, and ensure documentation accurately reflects program and system needs.
  • Review technical drawings, specifications, mockups, product samples, engineering artifacts, and other source materials to verify documentation accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Develop supporting materials such as charts, graphs, tables, forms, and presentation content for technical publications and briefings.
  • Ensure documentation complies with applicable government, program, organizational, and formatting standards, as well as established configuration management processes.
  • Establish and maintain consistent terminology, language, formatting, and presentation standards across multiple documentation products.
  • Develop tables of contents, citations, references, appendices, and other supporting documentation as required.
  • Coordinate document review cycles and incorporate feedback from program managers, engineers, government customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain organized electronic libraries and repositories of approved documents, presentations, reference materials, and associated records.
  • Monitor changes to requirements, systems, and program objectives and update documentation to maintain accuracy and relevancy.
  • Support the development of technical content for product announcements, specifications, marketing materials, presentations, and other program communications.
  • Prepare final documentation and supporting materials for publication, approval, and distribution.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Must have and be able to maintain a Top-Secret level clearance and have current SCI eligibility
  • BA/BS Degree
  • 8+ years of technical writing and editing experience, preferably supporting DoD, Air Force, or other Federal Government programs.
  • Must be a US citizen

Technical Skills

  • Strong writing and grammar skills with a clear command of the English language

  • Experience creating technical documents in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; familiarity with MS Project and MS Access is a plus

  • Ability to synthesize technical data and translate it into easily digestible formats

  • Desktop publishing experience and document version control

All positions at Applied Research Solutions are subject to background investigations.  Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation including criminal history and identity check.

The annual salary range: $105k - $115k. Salary is dependent upon the role and associated responsibilities, candidate's experience, and qualifications to include education/training, and key skills.
