Location

Onsite (TFHRC, McLean, VA) / Hybrid per COR direction

Clearance

Low Risk / Non-Sensitive - National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI); USDOT PIV/ID card required

About the Role

We're seeking a Senior Technical Editor to lead the editorial process for high-stakes technical documentation and mentor a team of writer-editors. You will turn complex engineering and research content into polished, publication-ready material that meets rigorous federal style and accuracy standards.

What You'll Do
  • Oversee the full editorial lifecycle of technical reports, manuals, and communications products, from outline to final publication.
  • Perform substantive editing, fact-checking, reference-checking, and copyright/permissions review.
  • Ensure all products conform to the GPO Style Manual and the organization's internal Communications Reference Guide (CRG).
  • Mentor and provide quality oversight to junior editors and writers.
  • Manage multiple concurrent documents and enforce version control across review cycles.
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts, legal/counsel, and public affairs reviewers.
What We're Looking For
  • Master's degree in English, Journalism, or a technical field.
  • 10+ years of editorial experience, including supervisory and project management responsibility.
  • Expert command of the GPO Style Manual; familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Transportation or highway/surface transportation research experience preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a Federal background investigation and obtain a USDOT PIV/ID card.
