About the Team
At DoorDash, we are building the industry's most scalable and reliable delivery network to support our three-sided marketplace of consumers, merchants, and dashers. TPMs on our Engineering teams provide fundamental support to the underlying technology services as well as the engineers building these services. It's no simple task, but it wouldn't be interesting if it was! This role sits in the Launchpad team, which is the innovation engine of DoorDash. The teams mission is to innovate, experiment, and incubate bold ideas that transform the future of local commerce.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager to drive the operational backbone of our fastest-growing hardware-software business. In this role, you will join an exciting new confidential initiative that has found momentum with an emerging hardware product.
You will act as the Execution Engine for the engineering organization, partnering with Product, Design, and Engineering Directors to deliver a market-leading platform. Given this initiative is still in its early stages, speed, craft, and execution quality are high priority. You must be located in either the Bay Area or the New York Metro Area for this hybrid position.
You're excited about this opportunity because you will:
- Drive Resilient, Always-On Architecture: You will lead the technical roadmap to ensure our platform performs flawlessly in dynamic physical environments. You will coordinate dependencies between Infrastructure and Feature teams to guarantee uninterrupted operations when merchants need them most.
- Bridge Product Vision & Technical Execution: You will partner early with Product Managers and Designers to translate ambitious user requirements into executable technical specifications. You will ensure that technical decisions prioritize shipping a delightful, high-quality merchant experience.
- Demonstrate Technical Depth - You will develop a full understanding of our technical stack and interdependencies, allowing you to contribute to designs and ensure they are scalable, reliable, and efficient.
- Nurture Stakeholders - You will manage all stakeholder expectations from leadership to individual teams, possess strong problem solving and negotiation skills, and earn the trust of partners and teams.
- Navigate a Complex Organization - You understand engineers and enjoy working with them. You will build trust by developing strong technical domain knowledge that adds value beyond project management.
- Manage Process & Timelines - You will manage timely and succinct communications to leadership and across teams to ensure accountability. You'll develop processes to ensure teamwork is streamlined to manage complexity and optimized velocity. You are thoughtful about how and when to implement processes with a light touch and clear understanding of success within DoorDash's culture. You'll balance urgency and priority while moving the needle on multiple initiatives.
We're excited about you because you have:
- 5+ years of Technical Program Management experience, with a track record of leading complex programs in high-growth engineering organizations.
- Fluency in Distributed Systems: You understand the technical challenges of syncing, latency, and eventual consistency. You can discuss architectural trade-offs with Engineers regarding offline capabilities.
- Hardware/IoT Awareness: You are comfortable managing programs that involve physical world constraints (firmware updates, device procurement, rolling out code to distributed endpoints).
- Product Instincts: You are not just a scheduler. You understand the Why behind the What. You use data and customer empathy to help prioritize the roadmap and can push back when technical decisions threaten the user experience.
- Structured Thinking: You can translate a yearly business strategy into a quarterly technical roadmap with clear dependencies and milestones.
- Resilience & Adaptability: You thrive in an incubation environment where the roadmap changes based on customer feedback. You view ambiguity as an opportunity to define the path forward.
