Senior Technical Writer – Tools Branch Lead

Location: Remote (US), working Central time (supporting the Kansas City, MO branch)

Type: Full-Time, Contract (contingent upon contract award)

Clearance: Must pass a federal background investigation and obtain a GSA PIV credential (HSPD-12)

About the Role:

We are seeking a Senior Technical Writer to lead the Tools Branch team supporting the GSA Global Supply Engineering Division. The branch processes up to 6,600 NSN actions a year for powered and non-powered hand tools. The Senior Technical Writer serves as the branch's central point of contact and is responsible for all branch work and personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the Tools Branch lead and primary point of contact for the government customer
• Assign and prioritize work for Technical Writers and review IPDs before release
• Create and update IPDs in TIMS and EDMS, including description, Item Name Code, characteristics, unit of issue, notes, and components
• Research manufacturer part numbers, specifications, and applicable standards (ASME, ANSI, SAE, FED-STD, MIL-STD), using the latest published editions
• Validate IPD data against FLIS and prepare and follow through on cataloging update requests (NCAL)
• Review technical drawings associated with IPDs
• Research technically equivalent items to prevent duplicate NSNs
• Prepare the weekly Tools Branch Quality Status Report, covering quality targets, validation results, NCAL status, error rates, and work status
• Meet turnaround standards of 3 business days for requests under 10 items and 2 weeks for requests of 10 or more items

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in technical writing or engineering support
• Experience writing product specifications, purchase descriptions, or technical documentation
• Working knowledge of hand and power tools, including materials, dimensions, and performance standards
• Ability to manage high-volume work on deadline with attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work core hours of 9:00 AM-2:30 PM Central

Preferred Qualifications:

• Federal cataloging experience (NSN, FLIS, NCAL, CAGE codes, DLA or GSA supply)
• Experience with TIMS or EDMS
• Supervisory or team lead experience
• Background in the tools, industrial supply, or manufacturing industry
