Senior HRIS & Benefits Specialist | Oakland, CA

LHH is teaming up with a mission-driven nonprofit organization in Oakland, CA in search of a Senior HRIS & Benefits Specialist to support HR systems optimization, benefits administration, vendor integrations, and HR technology initiatives.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established organization that is investing in modernizing its HR operations and employee experience. The Senior HRIS & Benefits Specialist will play a key role in supporting HR systems, enhancing automation, administering benefits programs, and partnering with vendors to improve efficiency across HR processes. This position offers the chance to make an immediate impact while helping build scalable solutions that support a growing workforce. There is potential for this opportunity to convert to a permanent position based on business needs and performance.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on HRIS and benefits professional who can quickly step in and contribute with minimal onboarding. They bring advanced UKG Ready expertise, strong EDI feed knowledge, and experience supporting benefits integrations and HR system optimization. This individual enjoys solving complex system challenges, improving processes, and partnering with vendors to create efficient and scalable HR operations. They are collaborative, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a primary resource for HRIS administration, configuration, maintenance, and optimization.
  • Build, maintain, and enhance HR workflows, automated HR actions, and system processes.
  • Support benefits administration activities and serve as a liaison with benefit vendors and carriers.
  • Manage and troubleshoot EDI feeds and benefits-related system integrations.
  • Partner with brokers, retirement plan providers, COBRA administrators, and other third-party vendors.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual HR processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Generate reports and analyze HR data utilizing advanced Excel functions.
  • Support HR technology projects, process improvements, and system enhancements.
  • Troubleshoot HRIS-related issues and recommend solutions.
  • Assist with ongoing initiatives designed to maximize HR system capabilities and reduce manual processes.

Qualifications:

  • Required: 5+ years of experience in HRIS, Benefits, Total Rewards, HR Operations, or a related field.
  • Required: Strong experience administering and supporting HRIS platforms.
  • Required: Advanced UKG Ready expertise, including system administration, configuration, workflow development, and HR actions.
  • Required: EDI feed knowledge and experience supporting benefits carrier integrations and vendor connectivity.
  • Required: Experience building workflows, automating business processes, and optimizing system functionality.
  • Required: Benefits administration experience, including working with benefit carriers, retirement vendors, COBRA administrators, brokers, and third-party partners.
  • Required: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas, and reporting.
  • Required: Experience supporting HR systems, reporting, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Required: Ability to independently manage technical HRIS and benefits-related projects with minimal training.
  • Experience supporting organizations in nonprofit, healthcare, behavioral health, social services, or similar mission-driven environments preferred.
  • Experience supporting organizations with approximately 400+ employees preferred.
  • Former HRIS consultant, UKG consultant, or UKG employee highly desirable.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.

Job Type: Contract with potential temp-to-hire opportunity

Start Date: August 2026

Location: Hybrid in Oakland, CA (approximately 1-2 days onsite per week with flexibility for additional onsite needs)

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

Pay Rate: $46.00-$56.00/hour DOE
