Description:

The City of Napa is hiring a Senior Traffic Engineer. The community of Napa is a beautiful place to live and work, with a population of 77,480. The Organization:

The City of Napa is a full-service city with 11 departments, including the City Manager's Office, Human Resources, Finance, Parks and Recreation Services, Community Development, City Clerk's Office, City Attorney's Office, Public Works, Utilities, Police and Fire services. The FY 2025/2026 General Fund expenditure budget totals $163.4 million and $168.4 million for FY 2026/2027. The budget reflects the six focus areas established by the City Council: (1) Housing, (2) Economic Resilience, (3) Community Engagement, (4) Climate Action, (5) Roads & Traffic Safety and (6) Parks & Community Spaces.

The Department:

The Public Works Department has 85 full-time employees who design, construct, operate and maintain the City of Napa's public infrastructure, including streets, sidewalks, drainage and stormwater quality, bridges, street lights, traffic signals, and electrical. The department also manages essential roles within the City's development review process, construction inspection program, traffic safety, transportation, bike trails, and manages the 5-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP), internal city-wide services for Fleet Management, City facilities maintenances, and Capital Program Management.

The Position:

This is an exciting time for the City, with the extent of ongoing and upcoming construction, the City desires an experienced and motivated team-player that is up to the task of carrying forward the City's priorities and vision throughout all public and private construction projects. Reporting to the Deputy Public Works Director, the Senior Traffic Engineer is one of twelve members of the department's management team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Transportation Engineering Division Manager, leading a team of five fulltime technical and professional staff.
  • Lead the Transportation Engineering Division in transportation planning, traffic engineering, traffic safety for all modes of travel, traffic calming, private development review process related to traffic engineering, and responding to traffic requests and inquiries.
  • Exercise independent judgment and initiative in the exercise of professional traffic engineering training and experience.
