Our client is a leading California-based engineering firm who is seeking an experienced Senior Transit Engineer / Project Manager to join their Transportation team in Los Angeles.
This is an opportunity for a seasoned rail professional to take a leadership role on complex, multidisciplinary railroad and transit projects while helping grow the firm's transportation practice. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, project management experience, and the ability to lead teams, interface with clients, and mentor the next generation of engineers.
What You'll Do
- Serve as Project Manager and/or Discipline Lead for railroad, transit, and civil engineering design projects.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate technical deliverables across engineering disciplines.
- Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, design criteria, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Perform and oversee railroad, transit, and civil engineering planning, analysis, and design.
- Lead detailed quality control and technical reviews of project deliverables.
- Work directly with clients, stakeholders, agencies, contractors, and project partners.
- Participate in client meetings, site visits, field assessments, and construction inspections.
- Support business development, marketing, and contracting activities.
- Represent the firm at industry conferences, events, and client meetings.
- Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineering staff.
- Provide technical leadership across railroad, transit, civil, industrial, terminal, utility, DOT, port, and agency projects.
- Travel periodically for client meetings, site assessments, and construction activities.
What We're Looking For
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of railway engineering experience, including management of complex multidisciplinary projects.
- Active California Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams on railroad or transit projects.
- Strong technical writing, communication, presentation, and client-facing skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and project management software.
- Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- A collaborative mindset and commitment to contributing to an employee-owned culture.
Preferred Experience
The ideal candidate will also bring:
- 15+ years of civil engineering/design experience, including significant rail/transit experience.
- Hands-on experience across the full lifecycle of railroad and civil design projects.
- Expertise with railroad horizontal and vertical alignments, earthwork modeling, drainage design, and plan production.
- Knowledge of railroad analysis and design software.
- Experience with AREMA's Manual for Railway Engineering and other railroad design standards, specifications, and criteria.
- Experience with OpenRoads/OpenRail, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GeoPak, or other BIM/design platforms.
- Construction inspection or construction management experience.
- A demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and help grow a technical practice.
- Experience managing multiple projects and working collaboratively across technical disciplines.
