Job Summary

As a member of the Power Networks team, you will provide transmission line design services. You will be responsible for preparing scaled physical drawings and developing complete design drawing packages for transmission line projects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare scaled physical drawings for transmission line projects with minimal supervision and engineering input.
  • Develop complete design drawing packages for checking or check the design drawing packages prepared by others.
  • Design transmission lines ranging from 34.5kV to 230kV.
  • Perform structural analysis and design of pole, lattice, framed, and guyed structures.
  • Lead project assignments and guide other design staff in preparing design drawing packages.
  • Interface with other disciplines in the development of the drawing package.
  • Create and review bills of material, conduit, and cable schedules for transmission line projects.
  • Work closely with engineers and other disciplines to ensure coordinated design systems.
  • Work in a team environment, take direction from the lead engineer, and create project drawings.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Work with limited direction and assist with conceptualizing layouts using go-by information.
  • Deliver quality, accurate, and timely work to clients.
  • Travel to job sites to perform site walkdowns.
  • Ensure quality assurance of documents to applicable drawing standards and proper document management procedures are followed.
  • Complete tasks in accordance with project procedures, applicable codes and/or standards, on schedule and within budget.

Qualifications

Technical/Industry Experience and Requirements

  • Extensive relevant design experience.
  • 5 years of experience.
  • Competent understanding of regulations, electrical codes, manufacturing standards, and industry standard practices.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Proficiency with the manipulation of scaled vector and raster drawing files in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE.
  • Ability to understand and implement a wide range of client CAD standards.
  • Knowledge of design codes and standards such as NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE-7, AISC, and ACI 318.
  • Familiarity with MS Office (Word, Excel, and Access).
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills for efficient teamwork.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training

  • Required: Associate Degree or Diploma in Electrical Design/Drafting with discipline-specific training or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in electrical design and drafting.
  • Preferred: Transmission Line design and familiarity is required.
