Job Title: Senior Transmission Engineer (Contract-to-Hire)
Location: Bloomington, MN

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Transmission Engineer for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Bloomington, MN. This role focuses on supporting high-voltage transmission line projects, including both underground and overhead systems up to 765kV. The ideal candidate will bring deep, hands-on experience in transmission engineering and play a key role throughout the full project lifecycle—from conceptual design through construction support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform transmission line design for new, modified, and redeveloped high-voltage projects (up to 765kV).
  • Collaborate with project teams throughout design and construction, adapting plans to meet budget, technical, and client requirements.
  • Develop engineering deliverables from conceptual design through final design completion.
  • Review and modify transmission components based on project needs and engineering standards.
  • Prepare equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, technical bid evaluations, and purchase recommendations.
  • Conduct conductor selection studies, lightning performance analysis, and grounding studies.
  • Calculate and verify electrical clearances in accordance with NESC and other applicable standards.
  • Interpret and apply regulatory requirements including NERC, FERC, and regional standards.
  • Compile technical reports, studies, and project documentation.
  • Update and review design drawings using CAD and related engineering software.
  • Support client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration activities.
  • Perform field inspections, site measurements, and engineering assessments as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline) from an ABET-accredited program and a minimum of 3 years of transmission engineering experience (consulting experience preferred), OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology (or related) from an ABET-accredited program, successful completion of the FE exam, and a minimum of 3 years of transmission engineering experience (consulting preferred), OR
  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering with at least 2 years of transmission engineering experience (consulting preferred).

Note: Internship experience does not count toward required experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated, substantial hands-on experience with 765kV transmission projects is required. (Candidates with only limited exposure will not be considered.)
  • Strong understanding of civil/structural engineering principles and transmission design practices.
  • Proficiency with engineering and design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit (BIM), Civil 3D, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCAD, and similar analysis software.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to think critically and solve complex engineering problems in a structured, analytical manner.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and collaboration skills.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
