Senior Transmission Interconnection Engineer

Location: Alvin, TX
Salary Range: $95,000 – $180,000 (Depending on Experience)

A leading Texas electric transmission and distribution utility is seeking a Senior Transmission Interconnection Engineer to support transmission planning, interconnection analysis, and long?range system reliability initiatives. This role sits within the Transmission Planning organization and plays a critical part in evaluating and integrating new resources while maintaining reliable grid performance.

This organization owns and operates mission?critical electric transmission infrastructure serving hundreds of thousands of customers across Texas and is focused on grid reliability, regulatory compliance, and future system expansion.

Position Overview
  • Role may be aligned to an experienced Engineer III or Engineer IV, depending on qualifications
  • Final level and compensation determined by experience and expertise
  • On?site role based in Alvin, TX

Position Summary
Under general supervision, the Senior Transmission Interconnection Engineer plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates engineering work related to transmission planning and interconnection studies. This position supports system expansion, generation and load interconnections, and long?term reliability while applying sound engineering judgment and regulatory awareness.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform and support transmission planning and interconnection studies for generation and load additions
  • Lead or conduct performance, cost, and schedule evaluations for transmission projects of moderate to high complexity
  • Apply standard and advanced engineering techniques to analyze system impacts and reliability concerns
  • Support operational areas through technical expertise and data?driven recommendations
  • Communicate engineering analyses, conclusions, and recommendations to internal stakeholders
  • Represent the organization in technical discussions related to transmission planning and interconnections
  • Identify and resolve technical and system?wide issues impacting reliability and compliance
  • Provide technical direction to contractors and internal engineering staff
  • Apply engineering expertise to develop or refine planning and interconnection standards
  • Mentor and support less?experienced engineers as needed

Core Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of transmission system planning and interconnection analysis
  • Ability to apply engineering and economic analysis to complex grid issues
  • Familiarity with industry standards and codes (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, etc.)
  • Ability to translate electrical theory into practical utility?scale applications
  • Comfortable working in and around high?voltage facilities (up to 345kV)
  • Strong leadership, initiative, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to forecast budgets and evaluate project tradeoffs

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET?accredited institution
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering preferred

Experience Requirements
  • Typically aligned to an experienced Engineer III or Engineer IV profile
  • 4–7+ years of progressive engineering experience in transmission planning, interconnection, or related power system disciplines
  • Equivalent combinations of education, certifications, and experience will be considered

Preferred Certifications & Licenses
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
  • FE/EIT certification preferred
  • Valid driver’s license meeting company requirements

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Combination of office and field work (primarily office?based)
  • Work around high?voltage electrical facilities, construction equipment, and office environments
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb, bend, and work at heights
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

Compliance & Background Requirements
  • Position may be subject to NERC CIP cybersecurity standards
  • Successful completion of background, identity verification, and personnel risk assessment required
  • Cybersecurity training required prior to access and annually thereafter
  • Credit check may be required depending on role and location
