Senior Transportation Design Engineer

About the Opportunity
We are partnering with a growing transportation and infrastructure engineering organization seeking an experienced Senior Transportation Design Engineer to support roadway, drainage, sidewalk, and public infrastructure design projects throughout the Southeast.

This role is ideal for a senior-level transportation professional with strong roadway design expertise, deep familiarity with DOT standards and processes, and experience supporting complex transportation infrastructure projects from concept through construction documentation.

The selected candidate will serve as a lead technical contributor while collaborating closely with project managers, engineering teams, agencies, and clients to support successful project delivery.

What You'll Be Doing

Transportation & Roadway Design
  • Lead preparation of transportation and roadway construction documents
  • Support roadway, sidewalk, drainage, shoulder improvement, and infrastructure projects
  • Assist with cost estimates, technical reports, and design coordination
  • Prepare and review GDOT/DOT-compliant plans and specifications
  • Coordinate with agencies, municipalities, and project stakeholders
Project Coordination & Delivery
  • Support project managers with project execution and technical delivery
  • Participate in client coordination and permitting activities
  • Assist with scheduling, design coordination, and technical problem-solving
  • Support junior staff and collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams
Technical Leadership
  • Serve as a senior-level technical resource on transportation projects
  • Maintain compliance with transportation standards, specifications, and design requirements
  • Assist with quality assurance and project design reviews
  • Participate in field coordination and construction support activities as needed

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 10+ years of transportation or roadway design experience
  • Strong experience with DOT transportation projects and standards
  • Experience supporting transportation projects through the full design lifecycle
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to support multiple transportation projects in a fast-paced consulting environment
Highly Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience serving as Lead Designer on transportation projects
  • Familiarity with DOT plan development processes
  • Construction support or field coordination experience
  • Experience supporting municipal or county transportation projects
