Senior Transportation Engineer IMEG is hiring a Senior Transportation Engineer to lead design efforts for moderate to complex transportation projects with limited support required from senior staff. This position is available in our Bettendorf, IA; Chicago, IL; Naperville, IL; or Rockford, IL office.In this role, you will work closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide project direction, engineering solutions, and client advice that improve complex transportation systems, enhance traffic safety, and optimize infrastructure for public and private sectors. You will also work within project budgets, lead training and mentoring efforts, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.Principal Responsibilities Lead design efforts for complex transportation projects, including highways, bridges, transit systems, and multimodal networksProvide advanced technical oversight for transportation design and support project teams through deliveryPerform site assessments and develop detailed analysis and technical reportsPartner with clients to understand project needs, define requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain strong relationshipsReview transportation infrastructure designs, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence to support quality control and client requirementsImplement IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs meet IMEG standards, industry standards, and project requirementsProvide technical training, mentoring, and field issue resolution with minimal support from senior staffStay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices while supporting research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEGPrioritize safety and regulatory compliance, including interpretation and application of state and local design criteriaCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams and lead project interviews and presentationsRequired Qualifications and Skills Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent, requiredProfessional Engineer (PE) License required7 years of experience minimum required, 16 preferred, in the building design consulting industryAdvanced proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specificationsAdvanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills for transportation planning, engineering design, and regulatory processesAdvanced knowledge of local, state, and federal transportation regulations, environmental policies, and permitting proceduresStrong training, mentoring and leadership skillsAbility to perform final quality control check in their area of expertiseAbility to sell work and develop client relationshipsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groupsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentAttention to detail and problem‑solving skillsEagerness to adapt to new challengesProficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and OutlookAbility to travel up to 25% with occasional overnight staysThis position is not eligible for sponsorship.Why Join Us IMEG puts people first—with a strong focus on career growth, work‑life balance, and meaningful impact.
