The Town of Los Gatos is accepting applications for the Senior Transportation Planner position in the Parks and Public Works Department. This is a unique opportunity to shape and develop a vital role within our organization.
The Senior Transportation Planner will focus on managing projects and programs that support sustainable transportation opportunities for the Town while addressing and improving mobility, safety, environmental, social, and economic conditions around transportation. The selected candidate will support the Town's ongoing initiatives around transportation and mobility planning, including identifying grant programs, supporting parking management and permitting and managing transportation planning related projects. The Senior Transportation Planner will assist in the review of transportation studies and develop and implement policies related to Transportation Demand Management and Vehicle Miles Traveled in private developments and manage parking programs. The Senior Transportation Planner will represent the Town on regional transportation committees and take the lead in identifying and securing local and competitive transportation funds. The Senior Transportation Planner reports to the Town Engineer.
The Ideal Candidate
The Town is looking for an experienced transportation professional with five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in transportation development programs, including two (2) years of project management who is visionary and innovative with strong leadership skills, passion for community engagement, and commitment to customer service. They will be results-oriented with strong communication skills, including public speaking, writing, listening, persuasion, and facilitation with the following experience:
Researching, applying for, and managing State and Federal transportation grants. Presentingtoelectedandappointedofficials,thepublic,andotherstakeholders.
Bicycle and pedestrian master planning on a community wide basis, both the planning phase of the work and project implementation/management.
Mobility-relatedprojectsandprograms,includingbicycle,pedestrianandrideshare. VTA process and procedures.
Parking program management.
Schedule: The normal workweek for this position is Monday through Friday with 4/10 or 9/80 schedule options; however, you may be occasionally required to attend evening meetings. This position is not eligible for a remote or hybrid work schedule.

About the Department
The Parks and Public Works Department (PPW) is responsible for the maintenance and improvements of the Towns public parks, facilities, streets, and other infrastructure. Our goal is to efficiently provide residents, businesses, and visitors with the highest quality service possible, with dedication and professionalism. The Department has three core service areas: Operations, Engineering and Administration. The Department also collaborates with all Town departments, and external partners and stakeholders.
Engineering Services: The Engineering team provides services in the areas of land use permitting and mapping, encroachment permits, capital improvement planning and delivery, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and parking.
Operations: The Operations function includes street and signals, park services, urban forestry, environmental services, fleet operations and facilities management.
Administrative Services: Administrative services supports all department operations including budget management, contract and procurement management, and asset management services.

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in transportation planning, city and regional planning, urban studies, civil engineering, or closely related field, and five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in transportation development programs including two (2) years of project management. A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university is desirable.

This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing and walking between work areas or the mobility to inspect various field sites is required. Individual(s) in this class must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting using standard office equipment, operate a motor vehicle to visit various Town and meeting sites; possess visual acuity to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS
Employee primarily works in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances and is in direct contact with other Town personnel and the public. While inspecting field sites, employee may be exposed to dust, fumes, and exhaust.
