The belief in sustainability within our company's practices creates a focus on client success and partnerships that are important to our communities and our environment.A Day in the Life of a Senior Transportation Project Engineer at HansonHere's a snapshot of what you would do in this role:Take a leading role on major Illinois transportation projects, including the Tollway I355/I88 Interchange master planning project and the IDOT I80 Mississippi River Bridge replacement and interchange reconstructionServe as a project engineer coordinating with multiple disciplines and subconsultants, contributing to schedules, and reviewing design team workGrow into deputy project manager responsibilities as experience increasesMentor and support junior engineers to build technical skills and professional confidenceDevelop roadway design solutions for major interstate and tollway improvements, urban thoroughfare reconstructions, and rural highway rehabilitation and reconstructionDirect the development of construction plans and contract documentsWork with the latest OpenRoads Designer (ORD) software, supported by internal training and active user groupsAuthor engineering reports, technical documents, and special provisionsVisit project sites to assess existing conditions, identify challenges, and develop alternative solutionsReview complex technical calculations, plans, reports, and deliverablesParticipate in client meetings, proposal development, and occasional public involvement activitiesTravel occasionally for client meetings and site visitsPerform other related duties as assignedWhat We're Looking ForWe feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:SkillsExperience with Illinois DOT and/or Illinois Tollway planning, design, plan production, and PS&EWorking knowledge of OpenRoads Designer; familiarity with ORD 3D modeling is a plusStrong interest in continued learning and expanding technical and leadership skillsExperience leading or supporting quality control reviewsExcellent communication and teamwork skillsEducation & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (required)Typically 10+ years of professional engineering experience, including 6+ years focused on roadway or transportation designRoadway design experience with IDOT and/or Illinois Tollway (required)Illinois P.E. or ability to reciprocate within six monthsWhy Hanson?Career Advancement: Opportunities for professional development and longterm growthProfessional Development: Internal and external training, plus support for technical and industry involvementCollaborative Environment: A supportive team that values innovation and your ideasCompetitive Compensation: As a 100% employee‑owned firm, your success is tied to the company's successWork‑Life Balance: Flexible work arrangements (hybrid options), family care leave, wellness programs, and a supportive cultureSalary Range: $150,000 - $180,000 Compensation is based on experience, technical qualifications, and overall fit.
