Who We Are Looking For:
The Senior Water Distribution Technician is a highly experienced field professional responsible for performing complex maintenance, repair, and construction activities within water distribution and wastewater collection systems while providing day-to-day technical guidance, mentorship, and support to less experienced technicians. Working under the direction of the Lead Water Distribution Operator and Project Manager, this position serves as a key technical resource for the field team, helping coordinate daily work activities, promote best practices, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with operational standards. While the role may include formal supervisory responsibilities, its primary focus is on technical leadership and field support.
Serve as an experienced technical resource who supports the Lead Water Distribution Operator by completing complex repairs, coordinating daily field activities, and helping the team respond efficiently to routine maintenance and emergency work, resulting in improved productivity and reduced service disruptions.
Mentor and provide day-to-day technical guidance to newer field technicians, promoting safe work practices, improving technical competency, and increasing the overall effectiveness and readiness of the field team as the utility continues to grow.
Perform and support high-quality maintenance, repair, and installation of water distribution and wastewater collection assets while ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with regulatory requirements, helping deliver reliable service to customers and protecting public health.
Schedule: Monday- Friday, 7.00am- 3.30pm. Will be required to respond to emergency or unpredicted situations.
What you will be doing at Woodard & Curran:
Perform advanced maintenance, repair, and installation work on water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
Assist the Lead Water Distribution Operator in coordinating daily field activities and prioritizing work assignments.
Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and on-the-job training to newer field technicians.
Serve as a subject matter resource for distribution and collection system maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
Install, repair, and replace water mains, service lines, valves, hydrants, meters, and related infrastructure.
Locate water mains, valves, sewer lines, manholes, and underground utilities.
Diagnose leaks, system failures, and operational issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
Operate heavy equipment, including backhoes, excavators, loaders, and other construction equipment in accordance with company safety standards.
Coordinate with Operations, Customer Service, and other internal stakeholders to ensure timely completion of field work.
Assist with emergency repairs, water main breaks, service interruptions, and storm response.
Monitor work quality and promote compliance with safety procedures, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
Assist with inventory management by identifying material needs and coordinating with vendors as directed.
Oversee work performed by contractors in the field when assigned.
Maintain accurate records, work orders, inspections, and daily activity reports.
Safeguard and maintain assigned tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment.
Participate in the rotating on-call schedule and respond to after-hours emergencies.
Exercises independent judgment in assessing field conditions, identifying operational issues, and determining the most effective methods to complete assigned maintenance and repair work safely and efficiently, escalating significant issues to the Lead Water Distribution Operator as appropriate.
Evaluates equipment and system performance to diagnose distribution and collection system problems, recommends corrective actions, and determines when additional resources or specialized support are needed.
Makes day-to-day decisions regarding job site safety, equipment use, and work sequencing to ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices while supporting efficient field operations.
Perform other duties as assigned.

What you will need to succeed!
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in water distribution and/or wastewater collection system operations and maintenance.
Florida Class III Water Distribution License required; Class II Water Distribution License preferred.
Demonstrated experience mentoring or training less experienced field personnel.
Strong working knowledge of water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, utility construction practices, and underground infrastructure.
Ability to read utility maps, locate underground infrastructure, and troubleshoot complex field issues.
Experience operating heavy equipment, including backhoes and excavators preferred.
Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate work across field operations, customer service, and operations staff.
Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and decision-making.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Successful completion of a background check, pre-employment physical, and drug screening.
$22 - $32 an hour
Pay Range depends upon level of experience.
