Scope of work
'The Website Accessibility Senior Specialist is a 1-year contract position we are adding to support our efforts to make website content accessible. The Senior Specialist role should focus on identification, documentation, and remediation of more complex materials, such as: data visualization, maps, tables, video, applications, tools, or other non-document remediation. This work requires working directly with product owners of different digital tools that need support to bring these tools into compliance. Additionally, this role supports the org-wide rollout of accessibility procedures and related training, serving as an expert consultant to the working team. On occasion, this role may be asked to participate in transformation of materials currently available in PDF, Word, Powerpoint, or Excel formats into formats that meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards and comply with Title II accessibility requirements in order to help with issues of volume or complexity.

Compliance leadership
" Serve as an internal authority on WCAG standards across our suite of products.
" Conduct hands-on accessibility testing and reporting.
" Lead solutioning for a variety of products based on the standards.
" Guide organizational resources in implementing solutions.

Org-wide rollout & enablement
" Develop scalable educational resources and training to raise accessibility literacy and our ability to do hands-on execution of accessible content across the organization.
" Support non-technical departments in their efforts to adopt accessibility best practices for digital products that they manage.
" Guide Accessibility Contact Points in their ability to identify accessibility issues and understand solutioning options.

Hands-on remediation work
" Solutioning for particularly large or complex documents to help stakeholders understand their options for creating alternative formats.
" Remediate documents.
" Make or request code edits in cases where we own the code base.
" Make changes where our use of vendor-supplied software was used in a way that created inaccessible digital content.

Education
Any of the following combinations of experience and completed education (degree field of study in communications, marketing, data analysis, customer service, digital marketing, website development, computer science, and information systems):
" High school diploma/GED with five (5) years of experience, one of which includes doing hands-on digital accessibility work and IAAP certification or similar certification.
" Associate degree with four (4) years of experience, one of which includes doing hands-on digital accessibility work and IAAP certification or similar certification.
" Bachelor's degree or higher with at least three (3) years of experience, one of which includes doing hands-on digital accessibility work, plus IAAP certification or similar certification.

Accessibility and WCAG Standards
" Expertise in web accessibility standards and best practices, with specific experience in designing and implementing web content that is compliant with the accessibility standards established by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.
" Hands-on experience doing digital accessibility work, with knowledge of content management systems, data visualization programs, and other digital mediums.
" Knowledge of accessible alternatives to common digital content problems.
" Ability to use automated and manual testing tools for digital accessibility

HTML/XHTML, Javascript (jQuery, AJAX), CSS, XML, XSLT
" Proficiency in the HTML programming language enough to understand code-based issues.
" Knowledge of how digital applications are built.

Web Content Management Systems
Knowledge of digital application and content management systems.

Communication requirements
" Experience working with Adobe Acrobat Pro/PDF documents, including creating accessible PDFs.
" Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to develop effective solutions.
" Effective communication skills to collaborate with client team members.
" Time management and organizational skills to meet project deadlines.
" Ability to manage and work on multiple projects concurrently.
" Ability to teach accessibility best practices and mindsets to others.
" Ability to set priorities in a fast-paced setting and handle multi-tasking well.
" Ability to accept sensitive/confidential information/situations and to facilitate initial handling/processing in a timely manner.
" Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.

Work Environment This position is eligible for a hybrid telework arrangement. The candidate's telework location must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
