Sensory Lab Technician

Job Title: Sensory Lab Technician – 26-00178

Spherion Mid Ohio, in partnership with  The JM Smucker Company, is seeking a Sensory Lab Technician to support the Research and Development department in Orrville, Ohio. 

This is a 6-month contract position that offers an excellent opportunity to experience working in a Fortune 500 company. There is opportunity for potential permanent hire for the right candidate!

Position Overview:

Facilitate sensory panels supporting Research and Development, including sample preparation, serving samples, distributing carry-out packages, sensory test execution, lab cleaning, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate sensory panels and conduct testing to support Research and Development related to food product lines
• Prepare samples of various food products, including coffee, baked snacks, pet food, spreads, and frozen foods.
• Maintain thorough lab records
• Ability to read protocol, prepare panels, and execute accordingly
• Maintain clean and organized laboratory work environment, including taking inventory, maintenance, and routine cleaning
• Maintain a strong focus on customer service to effectively communicate and have positive interactions with panelists and employees
• Work and communicate effectively with project team
• Clean and sanitize equipment
• Odor Neutral Policy: Maintain "odor neutral " environment. Be aware of own odors/aromas and strive to be personally "odor neutral " when working in the Tastepanel area. Agree not to wear perfume or scented products while working in the Tastepanel area. 

Requirements:

• Four-year degree in a scientific or mathematical related discipline is required; however, other unrelated types of degrees will be considered.
• Prior lab experience or internship is a plus, but not required
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Good analytical, critical thinking, and mathematical skills
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask
• Customer service communication skills
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and walk/stand for most work hours is required
• Strong oral and written communication skills

Compensation: $20/hour (approximately $41,600 annually)

Schedule and Location:

This position will work 36-40 hours/week with a typical schedule being 7am-4pm Monday-Thursday, and 7am-12pm on Fridays. This position will work 100% on-site at the Smucker Company campus in Orrville, Ohio.
