Position Overview

Vision IT is seeking a highly experienced Server Lead / Systems Administrator IV to support enterprise IT operations at Los Angeles Air Force Base (LAAFB). This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the server, backup, database, storage, and printer environments supporting mission-critical operations within a Department of Defense (DoD) enterprise infrastructure.

The selected candidate will serve as the technical lead for server and database operations, providing strategic guidance, lifecycle management recommendations, and advanced technical solutions while ensuring system reliability, security, and operational continuity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the enterprise server, backup, database, data storage, and printer environments.
  • Lead the Server/Database team in daily operational activities, maintenance, troubleshooting, and infrastructure support.
  • Ensure the availability, reliability, performance, and security of enterprise server and storage systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and advisory support for infrastructure projects, modernization efforts, and system upgrades.
  • Monitor system health, capacity, backups, disaster recovery readiness, and operational performance metrics.
  • Advise Government leadership on equipment lifecycle planning, refresh schedules, and infrastructure sustainment strategies.
  • Develop and recommend technical solutions to improve operational efficiency, scalability, and system resiliency.
  • Support implementation, configuration, patch management, and optimization of server and storage technologies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex server, storage, backup, database, and printing-related issues.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, network operations, engineering, and support teams to ensure secure and compliant operations.
  • Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, system configurations, and infrastructure diagrams.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD policies, security requirements, and operational standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in systems administration, enterprise server management, storage administration, or infrastructure operations.
  • Extensive experience managing enterprise server, backup, storage, and database environments.
  • Proven leadership experience leading technical teams and supporting large-scale IT infrastructures.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows and/or Linux server administration.
  • Experience with enterprise backup solutions, storage area networks (SAN), virtualization platforms, and print management systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical environments within government or DoD organizations preferred.

DCWF Requirement

  • DCWF Role: Systems Administrator (451) – Advanced

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting U.S. Air Force or Space Force enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with VMware, enterprise storage platforms, backup technologies, and database administration.
  • Relevant certifications such as Security+, Microsoft, VMware, Linux, or storage-related certifications preferred.
  • Experience with lifecycle management planning and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
  • Active Secret Clearance or above
