Data Center Relocation & IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) Technician / Data Center Asset Technician

 

Position Summary

We are seeking dependable, detail-oriented Data Center Relocation & IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) Technicians to support an ongoing data center asset recovery and decommissioning project in Chandler, Arizona. This role involves scanning and validating hard drives for secure onsite destruction, inventorying IT equipment within active data center environments, and assisting with rack preparation and migration for shipment.

This is a fast-paced, hands-on position requiring exceptional attention to detail, the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines, and a strong commitment to inventory accuracy, asset accountability, and secure handling procedures.

Workdays typically begin at 6:30 AM, with most project days concluding in the early afternoon.


Project Scope

Day 1 – Hard Drive Validation & Asset Inventory

  • Scan and validate hard drives designated for secure onsite destruction.
  • Verify serial numbers, asset tags, and inventory information using barcode scanners and web-based asset management software.
  • Accurately reconcile scanned assets against inventory records.
  • Scan servers, storage devices, networking equipment, and additional IT assets located within data center racks scheduled for liquidation.
  • Maintain strict asset accountability and chain-of-custody procedures throughout the project.
  • Identify and report inventory discrepancies or damaged equipment.
  • Meet productivity goals while maintaining a high level of accuracy and quality.
  • Work collaboratively with onsite project leadership and customer personnel.

Typical Daily Volume

  • Validate and scan 5,000+ hard drives.
  • Inventory 50 to nearly 2,000 IT assets, depending on project requirements.

Day 2 – Secure Hard Drive Destruction (As Needed)

  • Assist with secure onsite hard drive destruction operations when additional staffing is required.
  • Transport validated drives to designated destruction areas.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and asset accountability throughout the destruction process.
  • Follow all customer security, safety, and operational procedures.

Day 3 – Rack Migration & Shipping Preparation

  • Assist in safely moving populated IT equipment racks from the data center floor to the shipping dock.
  • Work as part of a four-person team to maneuver enterprise equipment racks.
  • Wrap, blanket, secure, and prepare racks for shipment.
  • Assist with loading preparation while ensuring equipment is protected during transport.
  • Follow established safety practices when handling heavy equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a data center, IT deployment, warehouse, logistics, inventory control, or IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) environment preferred.
  • Experience using barcode scanners, handheld scanners, or inventory management systems.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately process large volumes of serialized assets.
  • Comfortable performing repetitive scanning and validation tasks while maintaining accuracy.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to navigate web-based inventory applications.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and verbal instructions.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and secure handling of customer-owned assets.
  • Comfortable working in active data center and warehouse environments.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all site safety requirements.
