Immediate need for a talented Server-Side API Engineer (Kotlin/Java, REST & GraphQL) – Mobile Service Layer. Pay Range: $62/hr - $65/hour. Traveler benefits as per agency package. (Benefits vary by vendor and assignment).
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain server-side applications and APIs.
- Develop the Mobile Service Layer / BFF consumed by American Express mobile applications.
- Create scalable REST and GraphQL services.
- Write clean, maintainable, production-ready Kotlin and Java code.
- Refactor and modernize legacy services while building new functionality.
- Troubleshoot production issues and deliver permanent fixes.
- Work across CI/CD pipelines, testing, performance tuning, and deployment automation.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and QA teams in a large-scale agile environment.
Key Requirements and Technology Experience:
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience; 10–12 years is ideal.
- Production experience with Kotlin and Java.
- Strong experience building REST APIs.
- Working knowledge of GraphQL.
- Experience with Spring Boot and modern backend frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD and automated testing.
- Strong debugging, refactoring, and performance optimization skills.
- Experience working in large enterprise or financial services environments is a plus.
- Backend for Frontend (BFF) experience
- Microservices architecture
- Legacy modernization experience
- Asynchronous and event-driven programming
- Docker, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Gradle
- Experience supporting high-scale mobile platforms
