The VISTA Volunteer will play a capacity-building role in advancing the Brattleboro Union High School CAVE Kitchen and Garden into a sustainable, student-powered food and learning program. The VISTA will assess and document curriculum from the pilot year, build efficient systems for operations and strengthen community partnerships, volunteer engagement, and public outreach. By supporting garden-based learning, culinary training, and vocational skill development, the VISTA will help students, particularly those from low-income or at-risk backgrounds, build skills that will increase educational and income-generating opportunities beyond high school. Service of the VISTA will contribute to poverty alleviation by strengthening long-term program sustainability through expanding revenue streams, and creating pathways for students to gain workforce skills, confidence, and connections with trusted adults, community members, and their local food system in Vermont.
