Service Manager Requirements
5+ years of leadership experience in a repair shop, fleet maintenance, heavy equipment, or similar mechanical environment
Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and assist technicians when needed
Experience leading, coaching, and developing technicians and support staff
Excellent customer communication skills, especially over the phone
Ability to prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines and customer expectations
Experience managing or coordinating parts inventory is highly preferred
Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills
Proficiency with shop management systems and basic computer applications
Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and ethical leadership
Service Manager Responsibilities
Lead and develop a team of service technicians and parts personnel to achieve operational excellence
Coordinate repairs, rebuilds, and refurbishments of forklifts, aerial lifts, heavy equipment, railcar movers, and other industrial machinery
Manage workflow to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget
Monitor Work in Process (WIP) and proactively resolve bottlenecks
Ensure parts availability by coordinating inventory and ordering requirements
Communicate weekly repair updates with customers and maintain exceptional customer relationships
Promote and enforce a strong culture of safety, quality, and accountability
Coach technicians, assist with troubleshooting, and remove obstacles that impact productivity
Track key performance metrics and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability
Partner with leadership to drive operational improvements and deliver an outstanding customer experience
