Systems Specialist
The Systems Specialist provides technical support for Building Automation and Special Systems, including troubleshooting, programming, and ongoing service. This role will take responsibility for developing control databases, graphics, and programming sequences. Drawingon a solid understanding of electrical circuitry and platforms like Distech, Tridium or Alerton, the specialist will ensure systems operate efficiently to meet client needs and maintain accurate service documentation.
Responsibilities:
- Provide troubleshooting support for Building Automation System (BAS) onsite or via remote services, exhibiting a robust capability to identify and resolve issues concerning diverse control components and software from on-site and off-site locations.
- Utilize fault-detection and diagnostic tools to provide proactive data-driven service.
- Ensure timely software backups are created and uploaded for customer sites and software development.
- Provide Controls database, graphics, programming, etc. for sequences as provided by the Design Specialist, project specifications, or other applicable sources. (Distech, Alerton, Tridium, experience preferred)
- Provide accurate controls of systems including point-to-point checkout on sites as assigned.
- Support and coordinate with installation personnel, contractors, sales and project managers, etc. on sites.
- Provide support to Bosch Building Technologies and other contractors to solve building operating issues that go beyond the controls or special systems operation.
- Provide input to others as requested or required to assist in the accurate estimation, design, installation, start up, and training for building systems.
- Provide documentation including daily logs, check out logs etc. as required for assigned projects.
- Provide hands-on service support on existing systems ensuring their proper and efficient operation as well as providing ongoing support to the facility's building engineers.
- Complete time sheets, service work orders, and other paperwork required for this position in an accurate and timely manner.
- Deliver on-site customer training and technical support to building engineers, project managers, and staff.
- Participate in on-call rotation for 24-hour emergency response as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience with Johnson, Distech, Alerton, or Tridium controls systems.
- 2+ years of experience with programming and building automation controls database management.
- 2+ years of experience with troubleshooting basic electric and electronic circuitry, including reading and interpreting electrical and electronic diagrams.
- 2+ years of experience with proven field experience in building automation controls programming, network integration, and system commissioning.
- Understanding of AC power circuitry including breakers and multi-phase power (120VAC and greater).
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and control wiring diagrams.
- 2+ years of BACnet MSTP and/or BACnet IP experience with commissioning, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- General understanding of HVAC operations within a commercial facility (K-12, government facilities, hospitals, and/or data centers)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor or Associate degree in Engineering (mechanical, computer science, electrical, information technology, Two-year technical degree in HVAC, Electronics-related studies), or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of experience programming, servicing, and troubleshooting Distech, Alerton, or Tridium controls systems within building automation operations.
- 5+ years of experience with proven field experience and the ability to debug installation issues during both static and dynamic start-up phases.
- 5+ years of experience in Construction, Building Automation Controls/Engineering, or related fields within Building Automation.
- Deep understanding of HVAC operations within a commercial facility (K-12, government facilities, hospitals, and/or data centers).
- Experience supporting retrofit projects or modernizing existing building automation systems, replacing outdated controls, sensors, or hardware with newer technology.
- Experience providing service support to existing installations, ensuring compliance with building occupancy codes and ongoing efficient operation.
- Deeper understanding of HVAC equipment (Chiller/Boiler) operations within a commercial/industrial facility (K-12, government facilities, hospitals, and/or data centers)
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, climb, walk, sit, push, pull, squat, crawl, and stoop. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel objects, and type on keyboard; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The use of power tools will be required to effectively perform this position. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may be required to work at heights over 1.8m (6 feet)
Working Conditions:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, work on job sites, may be required to travel to and from job site locations, may work in a typical office environment, and is occasionally exposed to construction equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Confined space entry may be required. High work may be required.
