SERVICE TECHNICIAN I

Reports to: Service Manager

Status: Regular, Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Location: Fairbanks, AK

Pay Rate: $20 - $26 DOE

Arctic Home Living has been selling and servicing hot tubs and water filtration systems in Alaska for decades with locations in Fairbanks, Anchorage and Wasilla. JOB SUMMARY: The Service Technician I is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service while providing service, installation, and maintenance support for hot tubs, saunas, cold plunges, and water treatment systems. This position requires a high degree of technical skill, professionalism, and the ability to work in extreme weather and physically demanding environments.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Technical Expertise: Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for hot tubs, saunas, and cold plunges.

  • Customer Service: Provide professional, "white-glove" support and clear communication during service calls and installations.

  • Quality Assurance: Perform detailed inspections on all equipment pre-delivery and post-installation to ensure 100% functionality.

  • Operations & Documentation: Use ERP tools to manage work orders, warranty records, and service inventory.

  • Field Logistics: Safely operate company vehicles to job sites and maintain organized, stocked, and clean equipment.

  • Safety & Maintenance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including vehicle inspections (DVIR) and proper tool care.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong technical aptitude with mechanical, electrical, or plumbing systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and work orders.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Reliable, self-directed, and organized.
  • Comfortable working independently in remote or extreme environments.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficient with basic hand and power tools.
  • Basic computer and documentation skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid driver's license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.
  • Able to pass background check and obtain/maintain a DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (within 2 weeks of hire).
  • Experience operating or willingness to be trained on heavy equipment (forklift, skid steer, etc.).
  • Willingness to travel within Alaska for multi-day service trips as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Alaska Native Corporations.
  • Basic Technical and Mechanical Skills.
  • Experience in diagnostics and repair of equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 75 lbs. unassisted and push/pull up to 1200 lbs. with assistance.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces such as crawlspaces and attics.
  • Climb ladders or stairs while assisting with equipment up to 250 lbs., using dollies or lifting devices.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and work overhead for extended periods.
  • Stand or walk for up to 10 hours per day on uneven, icy, or slippery surfaces.
  • Manual dexterity to handle small parts and tools with precision.
  • Perform repetitive tasks using hand tools and power equipment.
  • Visual acuity and color vision to identify electrical components and safety hazards.
  • Tolerance for exposure to various weather conditions, noise, dust, and environments that may be hot, cold, or wet ranging from -45°F to 90°F.
  • Operate power tools, heavy equipment, and drive service vehicles for extended periods.
  • Independently operate motor vehicles in remote and challenging terrain.
