Job Overview
Will safely perform any work normally or reasonably required in this classification. The Service Tech position builds, maintains, inspects, trouble-shoots, replaces, and repairs distribution power lines, poles, and related equipment according to Company specifications and manufacturers recommendations. Reviews work orders and determine material needed to complete jobs. Loads wire coils, equipment, and materials onto truck. Completes pre-trip inspection of vehicle and job safety plan. Drives Winch or Boom truck to job sites. Installs poles occasionally, operating a winch or boom. Inspects safety/PPE equipment. Responsible for framing a utility pole and boring a hole to specification. Uses hand tools to assemble materials, connectors, T-brackets, etc. in preparation for installation on poles. Pulls wire and manually walks it on-site for installation. Installs conventional or internal arrestor transformers. Climbs ladder or works in lift bucket to remove/replace equipment. Climbs utility poles or other structures. Secures and splices wire to adjoining sections of line to complete circuits. Signs, dates, and notes changes on work orders. Constructs underground cable/transformer installations and installs auxiliary equipment. Uses test equipment to locate electrical problems for underground distribution systems. Cleans/maintains tools/trucks. Directs and evaluates work of less experienced technicians. May work as a Line Tech II based on schedule demand or in substations to perform load switching or repair work. Interacts with other Company personnel in person/by radio. Candidate must maintain regular attendance and comply with safety procedures, practices, and requirements. Candidate must be able to effectively communicate by radio to various company personnel.
