    Job Summary

    The Discharge Lounge Concierge supports patients transitioning out of the hospital by providing a comfortable, organized, and supportive environment while they await transportation or final discharge arrangements. This role enhances the patient experience by offering hospitality, coordination, and communication services to ensure a smooth and positive discharge process.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Maryland resident
    • Individuals eligible for the Maryland Service Year Program (generally ages 18-24)
    • Experience:
    • Customer service, hospitality, or healthcare experience preferred
    • Licensure/Certification: None required (BLS may be preferred depending on organization)
    • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
    • Excellent communication and active listening abilities
    • Ability to multitask and manage multiple patients at once
    • Compassion, patience, and professionalism
    • Basic computer skills and ability to document or track information
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    What You'll Do

    • Welcome and assist patients arriving in the discharge lounge
    • Provide a comfortable, supportive environment for patients awaiting discharge
    • Coordinate with nursing staff, care management, and transportation services
    • Communicate updates regarding transportation, medications, or discharge timing
    • Offer refreshments and basic comfort items (as appropriate)
    • Monitor patient needs and escalate clinical concerns to appropriate staff
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the discharge lounge area
    • Track patient flow and assist with documentation or reporting as needed

    What the Job is Really Like

    • You'll be the last impression a patient has before leaving the hospital
    • The role is a mix of customer service, coordination, and light patient support
    • You'll interact with patients who may be tired, anxious, or eager to leave
    • Timing and communication are critical-delays can impact patient satisfaction
    • You'll juggle multiple patients at different stages of discharge
    • While not clinical, you must be aware of patient needs and escalate concerns appropriately
    • The pace can vary from calm to busy depending on discharge volume

    Work Environment & Demands

    • Hospital-based discharge lounge with frequent patient interaction
    • Combination of standing, walking, and light administrative tasks
    • Requires multitasking and attention to detail
    • Fast-paced during peak discharge times
    • Minimal exposure to clinical procedures, but presence in patient care environment
    • Requires professionalism, empathy, and adaptability

    • Patient wait times and confusion are minimized
    • The discharge lounge is organized, clean, and welcoming
