    Job Summary

    The Security Officer provides a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors by monitoring facilities, enforcing policies, and responding to incidents. This role plays a critical part in preventing safety risks and ensuring a secure healthcare environment.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Maryland resident
    • Individuals eligible for the Maryland Service Year Program (generally ages 18-24)
    • Experience: Minimum six months of security experience preferred
    • Licensure/Certification:
    • Maryland Security Guard Card (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
    • Current BLS (CPR) certification required
    • De-escalation training required within 90 days
    • Valid driver's license required for certain duties
    • Skills & Abilities:
    • Knowledge of security or law enforcement practices
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations
    • Observation and problem-solving skills

    What You'll Do

    • Conduct interior and exterior patrols of facilities and grounds
    • Monitor entrances, parking areas, and key security posts
    • Respond to incidents and ensure safety of patients, staff, and visitors
    • Maintain security presence in high-risk areas (e.g., Emergency Department)
    • Provide directions and assistance to visitors and patients
    • Document security activities and incidents
    • Enforce policies related to safety, parking, and access control

    What the Job is Really Like

    • You'll spend much of your time walking, observing, and monitoring environments
    • The role requires constant awareness and attention to surroundings
    • Some situations may involve conflict, stress, or emergencies
    • You must remain calm and professional under pressure
    • The job includes both routine patrols and unpredictable situations
    • Strong customer service is important-you'll regularly assist visitors

    Work Environment & Demands

    • Hospital campus with indoor and outdoor responsibilities
    • Frequent walking, standing, and patrol activities (see physical demands on page 2)
    • Exposure to various environments, including emergency and behavioral health areas
    • Requires sustained alertness and quick decision-making
    • Combination of independent work and team coordination
